Figure Drawing Album

My changes were reverted twice because someone doesn't believe me, but Josh Joplin has a new album called Figure Drawing. It's credited as Josh Joplin and Among the Oak and Ash. He sold it at the concert in Atlanta last week. It was supposed to be released widely by now but got pushed back a few months for some reason. A February 10th Facebook post on Josh Joplin's page mentions it:

"Hello Everyone... OK LONG POST eek! Sorry. It's been a while but I have new music coming out. The record's called "Figure Drawing" - I made it with my band Among The Oak & Ash. It features a couple of wonderful friends, Wes Langlois Music, Hannah Miller, Jack Schneider Music and some #joshjoplingroup alum. It's all original music and a slight departure from the other records and I'm really proud of it. In the coming days, weeks, months, I'll be posting more updates here, and every other platform. I'm gonna tour this summer. We will be playing songs from the new record as well as the old tunes. It's gonna be a lot of fun and I'm really looking forward to it!"

And on March 10:

"This is my brilliant co-hort Wes Langlois (Wes Langlois Music)... He never stopped encouraging me to return to music. We pretty much made 3 records together over the years but this one finally stuck! Thank you so much Wes. The world is a better place cause you're whistling right on through it! The new album is called Figure Drawing and it's coming out May 1. Listen to the title-track single streaming everywhere March 15th."

He mentions it in a Facebook post about re-recording Better Days for the new album (it's called Late Night, Early Morning). I can't link it, but it's there.

@GamblinMonkey, you are being disingenuous, which calls into question your whole enterprise. I clearly told you here that I do believe you, so stop misrepresenting my motives.

Look, I got annoyed that you reverted my initial change and said "that's just a single, not an album" because that's incorrect. When I tried to talk with you about it on your page, you got angry with me. I'm sorry that's not the right way to communicate about something like this. I've added small edits to Wikipedia for years, but I don't interact with other people on it for the most part.

I didn't realize the standard for adding an item to the discography is having a reference for it, since the others on there do not have references. I thought since he'd been talking about it for months on social media and radio and podcasts, his descriptions for his upcoming shows talk about it and he has already sold it to the public at his shows, it would be fine to add it. I didn't know it was going to cause a fight.

This whole interaction of me trying to help by adding a little information that wasn't on the page blowing up onto a fight has convinced me to not edit Wikipedia in the future. It's just not worth the time or energy. Do whatever you want, I'm done. -GamblinMonkey (talk) 12:54, 19 July 2023 (UTC)

Dates?

This article displays a remarkable dearth of dates. Even years are scarce: almost nothing between 1990 and 2001, despite what seems to be a lot happening. The result is a jumble of possibly-connected facts with little structure. I added one year, but there's a lot more to do. Minturn (talk) 15:15, 9 September 2025 (UTC)

Updated discography

Discogs users have made some breakthroughs recently on two of the early Josh Joplin publications, A Gift for Hitler and I Love Janey (But Janey Loves the Grateful Dead), both of which were thought to be full albums until recently. They are, in actuality, 7in 45 LPs, containing only two or three songs, meaning that they should rightfully be classified as singles.

With these, I've updated the list to include all singles released by the JJG (a few of them are notable, such as I've Changed, which collects two well known and one practically unknown version of the song, which Joplin has published ~five times now), moved down the two "albums" to their proper categorization, and included all the compilation albums, which is worth doing now that misc..misc has been released.

I'm going to take a stab at writing stubs for the missing albums soon (TM), as I've managed to collect a good amount of the necessary information, but I'm having to wait for some of this to filter through and down. Yet Another Horse (talk) 01:53, 8 May 2026 (UTC)

I managed to track it down. I'll retain the information I got from the liner notes and Joplin's Bandcamp page (I assume that first party here would be fine) and remove the more comprehensive list of singles, the only purely Discogs contribution. I'm mildly worried that I'm getting close to the territory of original research, as I own the bulk of these albums, and I'm not sure if conjecture on dates or years is going to cause problems.

Concerning Discogs, while I'm aware that the listed information itself is not allowed, could I use the images others have uploaded? Effectively, source the original information from the image itself, even though it's uploaded to a place I shouldn't? Yet Another Horse (talk) 16:52, 8 May 2026 (UTC)

Basically how to cite liner notes. I've purged everything from my previous edit that I wasn't able to cite directly, and I'm in the process of getting all the liner notes assembled. I'm planning on adding them a few at a time, just to save some time and stress. The Discogs problem is the User Generated information (which, lol, isn't wikipedia?), which doesn't meet editor standards. However, from the notes from Joplin's first compilation album, the most important new facts (that two of the early 'albums' were in fact singles, that they were LPs rather than records, who the publishers were, etc.) is all available. The citation is a bit of a mind-blower, but I went through the list and included everything I was able to find in the liner notes themselves. Yet Another Horse (talk) 06:27, 9 May 2026 (UTC)

That sounds like quite the slog, so kudos to you for doing that. Re. WP being user-generated, that's true, but I know nothing of the reliability guardrails inherent to Discogs, whereas on WP, as you can see, they are quite stringent, so that's not a fair comparison. Sorry, misspoke. LP vs CD, a single rather than an album. I think I made that post at around 3:00 AM.
