Possible AI-generated content
[edit]Hi -- I have tagged the section added by User:Vallee as potentially LLM-generated. The diff, and a great deal of their other contributions, are suspect becase they display several AI writing tells and their userpage is a giveaway they use AI for at least some things. I have not removed the content as this is just a suspicion, but it needs fact checking, and then a rewrite for non-neutral tone (in that order). Gnomingstuff (talk) 14:50, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi,
- I was offline for some time.
- Yes, indeed, I used AI for translations, proofing, and for wiki-formatting.
- However, I did it on the basis of serious scientific articles (in this case here from fr.gallica.fr), which I always referenced correctly.
- Before hitting the post button, I always checked if the data is accurate.
- It was in a phase during which I made a lot of QGIS maps, and was frustrated by the emptyness of the corresponding pages, which I wanted to populate with accurate, retracable information.
- I hope this explains the approach.

Major revision of the article
[edit]I have substantially revised this article, which explains the unusually large diff.
The revision is based on the recent reworking of the corresponding French Wikipedia article, but it is not a simple translation. I checked the English text again against the underlying scholarly literature, including Gavault, Carcopino, Laporte, Gascou, Caillet, Lipiński, Yorke and Davidson, Stone, Khouf and Drici, and Bourai.
The main reasons for the rewrite were that the previous version still treated several older interpretations as established facts, notably the description of Iomnium as a Phoenician colony, the identification of specific civic buildings such as a forum or courthouse, and some outdated assumptions inherited from the former confusion between Iomnium, Rusuccuru and Rusippisir.
The revised version keeps much of the useful archaeological detail, but distinguishes more clearly between observed remains, older interpretations, and conclusions supported by more recent scholarship. It also adds more precise sourcing, generally to the relevant pages.
Comments and corrections are of course welcome. Vallee (talk) 15:22, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
