Why do people keep changing Humam Sakhnini's identity to Israeli?
[edit]Humam Sakhnini is a Palestinian citizen of Israel yet there's people who are insisting on calling him 'Israeli' becuase of his recent Discord controversy. His nationality needs to be changed to reflect his true background, a Palestinian. ~2026-94717-4 (talk) 20:27, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- Because there isn't a single source identifying him as Palestinian, and we can't assume based on birthplace because for instance it's possible that he might be of Lebanese descent, as is common in the Galilee, and it's possible that he identifies as Israeli, even if other people consider him Palestinian, Wikipedia requires a reliable source to make such claims. 2kbfloppadisk (talk) 05:41, 12 February 2026 (UTC)
- Discord has published a bio for Sakhnini which identifies him as a Palestinian American born in Damascus. Click his photo for the bio pop-up here: https://discord.com/company#:~:text=Humam%20Sakhnini%2C%20Chief Squatchsass (talk) 18:49, 21 September 2026 (UTC)

- You’re citing a random website over his bio on the website of the company he manages? Cartifan27 (talk) 02:50, 25 September 2026 (UTC)
- Yeah this "whatreligionisinfo" edit is obvious trolling. His actual official bio is here: https://discord.com/company#ceo
- This is clearly malicious editing at this point so the page should be locked down once this is corrected. Squatchsass (talk) 04:19, 25 September 2026 (UTC)

Request to add a photo
[edit]Hello editors, I have a request as I work on Humam Sakhnini's Wikipedia page which lacks such a useful file. I would like to request adding a photo to their Wikipedia article. The photo has been uploaded to Wikimedia Commons under the name [File:Humam_Sakhnini.jpg].
Can an editor review this and add it if appropriate? Thank you! Kutaykynes (talk) 20:52, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
- I have concerns regarding the licensing of that image, which I've noted on commons. Let's address those first before adding to this page. Thanks meamemg (talk) 21:10, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
Subject's identity
[edit]Hello, I am an agent for Wikipedia's Volunteer Response Team. In the private ticket:2026030210008711, I have a request from the subject of the article through their verified representative. They are requesting the following changes to the article.
Based on this information, I am making changes to this article, using this personal information as the source for fact-checking. If you have questions please ask here. Thanks.
The article inaccurately states Humam was born into an Arab Christian family in Nazareth, Israel. He was born in Damascus, Syria and grew up in Lebanon, and is of Palestinian descent.
The inaccuracy stems from this now-archived article: (in history log)
We contacted the outlet directly for a correction, but their solution was to remove the article entirely. We also believe the outlet also fails to meet Wikipedia's high standards for trusted sources.
While we do not currently have an alternative source citing his accurate heritage information, we hoped we could work with you to correct the record (or at the very least, remove the inaccurate information and lock it from being re-added so as not to perpetuate misinformation that is quite personal).
Bluerasberry (talk) 19:57, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
- Did they provide any source (direct, indirect, like a passport or something) backing this claim up?
- I'm not the one who added this information, when I created it, there was no mention of nationality whatsoever... But if the agent is like "trust us, he's Palestinian", it totally fails Wikipedia's mission. Intimidation (i.e: "deleete the article, it's fake news") should not be a valid method, especially when adding information without serious evidence. The article that was used as a source has been deleted. So maybe the solution would be not to mention any nationality at all until a serious source backs it up. Global Donald (talk) 20:37, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
- User:Bluerasberry I shared Global Donald's concerns. Is there a policy or precedence for linking to a Wikipedia talk page note as a WP:BLP source? The current nationality bit is relying on a single source, and if that's in dispute perhaps we could remove that for starters. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:48, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
- Ideally we'd have a better up-to-date reliable source. I understand that this can be challenging for subjects of articles with inaccurate information. OhNoitsJamie Talk 20:52, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
- @Global Donald and Ohnoitsjamie: The general circumstance is that a publication called a person Israeli, when the article's subject says that they are of Palestinian descent. I am not sure how you felt intimidation in this request, because it seems routine to me.
- This information entered Wikipedia in September 2025 special:permalink/1311847498#cite_note-5 . I think that the citation used here does not meet Wikipedia's standard for WP:Reliable sources.
- There are certain key biographical details which are not routinely reported in reliable sources, but which can be very important to people to include. I am sympathetic to this person's claim that Wikipedia has incorrectly reported their ethnicity and background.
- I do not question that the request comes from the subject of the article, but if you like, we could get another VRT agent to give a second opinion. I posted here on the talk page to be transparent about that request.
- We have no process to do original journalism or research ourselves. The WP:VRT process is intended to be confidential, but it is not a secure system, and we have no capacity to request people's identification. Even if we had a secure system, there are lots of reasons why we should not ask people to send their ID, passports, marriage licenses, religious records, and other such things. I have more experience doing this with Wikimedia LGBT+, where for example people with Wikipedia articles may have name, gender, or pronoun changes which they request but which are not the subject of media coverage. We do not have a stable system for this.
- While I do not think we should fulfill edit requests of all sorts, I do think that it is safe to make demographic changes in the absence of controversy, especially when subjects complain that Wikipedia has shared information in error.
- There is no established precedent for linking to a Wikipedia talk page for BLP changes.
- I can understand why it would be upsetting for someone to confuse Palestinians with Israelis. In the context of the subject's request, and Wikipedia having shared information claimed to be in error for months, and in the context of the transparency of the subject's request, I thought to make the exceptional change.
- Questions? Would either of you like to be so bold as to take a position on the ethical thing to do in this case? Bluerasberry (talk) 21:11, 2 March 2026 (UTC)
- I'm OK removing nationality information if there's credible information that the source might be questionable, but as far as changing it to a different nationality solely based on a VRT ticket, I'd feel better about it if we solicited additional input at the BLP noticeboard.
