Hentai fansubbing groups

Fansubbing groups in the hentai sector typically have a short life cycle, averaging three years. Some groups only exist for a few months and devote themselves to just one or two titles (e.g., Dark Hentai, Fap2Hentai, Hentai Reactor). Other groups have been around longer, such as “erobeat fansubs,” which has been active since 2005 and is one of the oldest representatives. The typical course of such groups can be described figuratively as a “bell curve”: Initially, the joy of the project is in the foreground—for example, providing missing subtitles or sharing enthusiasm for certain anime. At the zenith of their existence, pride in their own work prevails. Towards the end, however, motivation often turns into obligation, especially when a loyal audience regularly expects new content. As a result, people leave groups, which is why some groups have internal rules, training, and quality assurance measures. In the end, without intervention, the group will probably burn out over time. For example, the leader may decide that continuing the group is not worthwhile, or there may be internal power struggles.

This description is appropriate for fansubbing in general. In an interview, one participant stated that once the material is on the internet, it distributes itself. However, according to him, there are also groups that spend a lot of money on distributing the translated materials. The participant considers this to be an unnecessary expense.

@The Other Karma: The two sources are 404 errors now. This seems to be too much WP:OR, and more about the nature of fan clubs than something specific to Hentai. If you can find better sources and trim the request, ping me. STEMinfo (talk) 18:16, 8 October 2025 (UTC)

@STEMinfo Thanks for reviewing that edit request. I just saw that too that the page no longer exists. It was this one:(PDF) (2017) Fansubbing Hentai Anime: Users, Distribution, Censorship and Ethics | Daniel E. Josephy-Hernández [ダニエル •ヨセフィ] - Academia.edu The source has gone from published to unpublished, which has never happened to me before. You can close this edit request and I see if I can get it republished through my network again. Unfortunately, I no longer have the PDF, but it wasn't WP:OR. Futomomo / Mae Kara Mieru Oshiri

I'm afraid this entry was a kind of vandalism case. When you google for those terms, "Mae Kara Mieru Oshiri" is virtually non-existent, and "Futomomo" only gives you thousands of results about how to do painful bondage. --~2026-88206-5 (talk) 14:02, 6 May 2026 (UTC)

"futomomo" (太もも) is plainly the word for thighs in Japanese. And I guess "mae kara mieru oshiri" shows no results because it's just a romanized Japanese sentence meaning "butt you can see from the front"(between the crotch). If you search the sentence in Japanese (前から見えるお尻) on Pixiv for example, there are results. Araware (talk) 02:03, 14 August 2026 (UTC)

Hello, please bare with us, we are not into the fine details of posting and writing here.

So, this is about futanari. Especially this paragraph in the article:

"Many works are focused on depicting the mundane and the impossible across every conceivable act and situation, no matter how fantastical. One subgenre of hentai is futanari (hermaphroditism), which features a woman with a penis or penis-like appendage in addition to a vulva. Futanari characters are often depicted as having sex with other women, but many other works feature sex with men or, as in Anal Justice, with both genders. Futanari can be dominant, submissive, or switch between the two roles in a single work."

Yeah, we are here to inform you that that is just not true and very hurtful. And uninformed. The part about being it impossible and fantasy. You ever heard of intersex persons? As a intersex born one ourself, which actually looks like [[https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hermaphroditus][Hermaphroditus]], and yes, we where borne like this and are not a product of any transitional medicine, it is very annoying to be reading again and again that something like that is not possible and fantasy.

Even when it is a very common misconception that intersex persons are born with genitals of both sexes, that is actually something that happens. There are like three documented cases in the last hundred years or so of that. Yes, that is a miniscule amount of cases and does not mirrors the more common truths and realities of intersex bodies, but still, it happened.

Please get it in your head that intersex persons are real and living on this planet. For like ever. And being mystified and being put into the realms of fantasy has a very detrimental effect on them. We are personally majorly damaged by this, mentally and physically. It's the other way around. It's a myth that we are a myth. And we are fine being borne like that.

The mystyfication of intersex persons leads to actual harm being done to them. Intersex children got and get mutilated after birth and later on by forced gender reassigning operations since that is possible. Not that the mental harm being put into the realms of myths is any less damaging.

Tu put it bluntly, the person writing this sentences looks like a woman and has a "penis or penis-like apendage" and would like to have a word with you about that paragraph.

Then there is nowadays also a very large group of people who are borne with non-binary genders. Who transition physically later on to having intersex bodies. They are also put into "non-existence" with that paragraph. Actually they are in numbers larger than persons born like this, like we are. There is a problem of overshadowing us, but that is a different topic. But still, they make us greater in numbers.

Yes, it is kinda very weird that for decades the only cultural representation we had was in hentai. But not really even, when you think about it and examining the topic. There is a large fascination with intersex bodies. People are drawn to the "exotic" when it comes to sex.

As a intersex person with the features of Hermaphroditus we can give you this in writing, from our perspective the mystification makes total sense. We are a hundred percent sure that for the classical Greek statues was someone like us sitting model. But we are "rare". There where for sure more people seeing the statues than the real person. And with being "rare" comes also the nimbus of something one has to have. To taste, to experience. For sure there where also people like us born in Japan, most probably they did sex-work, most probably not by choice. The discrimination we personally live trough daily is beyond any description. Sex-workers being models for artists is a thing in probably all cultures. Just add up the rest by yourself.

We would also like to add, that being like Hermaphroditus is only one of the many different intersex conditions and we are not representing all intersex persons. But we are real, and angry.

Also we won't to state that there is a large bias in the medical culture which is patriarchal shaped that is trying to put us into non-existence, the realms of myths. We are quite angry about that paragraph, but, most persons have just no other choice then to believe what they taught. And the medical establishement discusses us away for hundreds of years. Which kinda makes sense also, like, there are only men and women, we all now that for sure at least ;)

The medicine fulfills an non-spoken societal contract that is for hundreds of years enforced by christianity, the church. The Adam and Eve principle.

We are the apple, please don't pluck us.

I'm not sure if you're saying we should use the term "intersex" instead of "hermaphrodite" for people with functional genitals of both sexes, or if you're saying that it's not true that for people with functional genitals of both sexes are not depicted in hentai sometimes, or something else.

If it's the first, we go by the WP:COMMONNAME for this situation. I don't know what this is. Maybe it is "intersex" in which case we should change it. There might be sources for this (I haven't looked). If it's the first, that may be true (a quick google shows no instances), then we should remove the passage. I dont know. I'm still checking the history but it seems at some point File:Hentai - yuuree-redraw.jpg was replaced from depicting the genre to depict an Eroge, while other worse quality images (own-work drawings that look too western-style, and multiple of the same editor) where added. I'm not against it being used for the Eroge section per se, but displacing an image that more represents the style for multiple own-work art from an editor doesn't seem right. I'll make a new proposal to replace them for a more typical japanese style one, again. pmt7ar ^(talk) 23:11, 6 September 2026 (UTC)

In the "Genres" section there are missing terms under "Common Japanese terms". in "Common English terms" it says Bakunyū / Hinnyuū and the Common Japanese terms only says "爆乳" ("/貧乳" should be added), and in Futomomo / Mae Kara Mieru Oshiri the Japanese terms says only 太もも (and "前から見えるお尻") should be added. Replacement of self-made art for licensed

There has been some images used over and over in this article, all made by the same wikipedia editor User:Niabot, that I feel do not represent the typical japanese drawing style, both in design, composition and colors. I do not held anything against this editor, and I appreciate self-created material contributions when there is no alternatives; but for illustrating this article there are better alternatives than these quite westernized CG art.

At some point, 15 years ago, I raised the same issue and proposed a replacement of File:Hadako-tan.png, reaching to multiple japanese artists and arranging their artworks to be released under CCBY, and got it replaced with File:Hentai_-_yuuree.jpg.

I haven't been following this article in a long time, but checking recent history it seems that three images from the same editor, File:Hadako-tan.png, File:Anime Girl upright version.jpg, File:Anime girl at beach.jpg, keeps returning over and over to this article. Sometimes restored over separated edits by the same user (like User:AimanAbir18plus, which was blocked), making all three pictures up at the same time (see this and this edits). I dont imply a relation between these accounts and the creator of the images, but having three self-made images, with a style not really matching a japanese genre, constantly and simultaneously showing on this article, starts feeling like WP:NOTPROMO.

I hence, once again, propose to remove these westernized artwork initially, because the article has already multiple other images more representatives of the style without needing self-made artwork by editors. If needed, I can try again to reach japanese artists and get more representative artwork licensed into Commons. pmt7ar ^(talk) 23:48, 6 September 2026 (UTC)

If you can get some licensed artwork then of course it would be better, but that's a big hurdle unless you know someone in the industry. For the time being I think we should at least keep File:Eroge.jpg and File:CroesusXIncarna.jpg. - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 00:41, 10 September 2026 (UTC)
