Quasi-portrayal in "Lincoln (2012)"

So one of the radical house member characters in Lincoln is "Asa Vintner Litton," a radical lame duck congressman from Maryland. There was of course no "Asa Vintner Litton," but it seems like he's probably based on Davis, in that his biography and role are basically the same. I assume they probably changed his name so as not to confuse people with a character named "Davis" who is not Jefferson Davis. Winter Davis' family origins & youth

This article does provide the most important facts of Winter Davis' political career, but I think it would be improved by adding some of the facts of his early life. I believe some of these are mentioned in Creswell's oration, but are probably found in other printed sources from the period as well. One significant fact is that Winter Davis grew up in Anne Arundel County, Maryland (just south of Baltimore, where his father was a slaveholder. As a boy, Winter Davis often went hunting in the company of at least one family slave, and so heard a lot of the grievances of his family's bondsmen. This undoubtedly influenced the young man towards his later anti-slavery views. I am sorry I can not give chapter and verse of my sources off the top of my head, but I believe primary source material on Winter Davis can easily be found in the collections of the Enoch Pratt Free Library of Baltimore and the Maryland Society for History & Culture (formerly the Maryland Historical Society) located in Baltimore, if anyone wants to look.
