Coastal erosion
[edit]Coastal erosion is a very big issue at Happisburgh and surroundings, but it is very hard to find suitably accreditable content to meet Wikipedia's editorial guidelines. Jaydublu (talk) 08:48, 28 April 2008 (UTC)
I have removed "but by the 1990s, all that remained was a small strip of piled-up rocks." This is incorrect, the defenses have not been maintained for a number of years and are gradually breaking up. in the area where the erosioin is most severe the wooden defenses have completely disappeared - resulting in the formation of a bay. Rocks have been placed in this area in order to slow the erosion. This is form personal experience, but photographic evidence can be seen on the CCAG website. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Purplejumper (talk • contribs) 01:02, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- I have updated the sentence about pilot schemes. It is important to note that Historically, the situation at happisburgh has not been caused by climate change and sea level rise, but these will become more important in the coming years, so i have removed references to these for now, and hope to add more details later Purplejumper (talk) 08:08, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
- Ive added a sentence about the embayment to hel create a fller picture. Ideally the whole section should be rewritten though. ~2026-43536-97 (talk) 13:02, 7 August 2026 (UTC)
- I've revised this section now considerably, but it needs more work - notably on erosion rates (ref transition plan) and government predictions which take into account sea level rise and climate change. There are a lot fewer homes at risk in the next 40 years than have been lost in the last 40. Also need to mention transition from hold the line to managed realignment - with no provision made for a just transition Purplejumper (talk) 20:35, 15 September 2026 (UTC)
- I've added sub headings. still need to act on comments above. This is looking like it could be a stand alone article once all changed. Purplejumper (talk) 14:49, 21 September 2026 (UTC)

Decca References
[edit]As suggested by another user, I have started this talk thread.
I have updated the references for the Decca Field, which include a Bird Watching report from 2001 which states "During the morning of 25th September 1 999, Andy Kane and myself were birdwatching around Cart Gap and Sea Palling. Towards late morning we split up and I went north, ending up in fields between the old Decca radio mast at Cart Gap and Happisburgh to look for two Lapland Buntings seen earlier"
and provided more detail in the citation on the document published by North Norfolk District Council.
If these are not suitable, all ideas for finding ones that are are most welcome. ~2026-42646-20 (talk) 07:39, 3 August 2026 (UTC)
Hill House Inn
[edit]I'm looking for a better reference for the details of the pub interior.
Happisburgh Manor (St Mary's)
[edit]This is a brilliant reference and should be included.https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1001460?section=official-list-entry
It was run as a country club in the 1970s but i don't have a reference Purplejumper (talk) 20:52, 23 September 2026 (UTC)
- This whole section needs redrafting - it reads like a copy and paste from a book on architecture Purplejumper (talk) 20:53, 23 September 2026 (UTC)
- And there is some confusion on descriptions - in some refs it is refereed to as an estate, in others, a house. Locals just know it as the house Purplejumper (talk) 15:11, 27 September 2026 (UTC)
Proposed split of Coastal erosion section
[edit]Coastal Erosion in Happisburgh frequently makes national and international news. The section has recently been expanded and I would suggest that it has now outgrown the page. I suggest splitting this into a new page and leaving a shorter summary on the main Happisburgh page. Please let me know your thoughts below Purplejumper (talk) 08:08, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- Having read the guidelines on splitting a page, i will go ahead, and if there are any objections afterwards, the change can be reverted Purplejumper (talk) 08:33, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- Please DO NOT DELETE this section until all refs have been copied over - I'm having to do this manually. i will confirm here once complete. Thanks Purplejumper (talk) 09:04, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- So the CN I added might not be necessary! Sorry, thanks and best wishes DBaK (talk) 17:10, 3 October 2026 (UTC)

- Excellent move! Thank you. DBaK (talk) 17:08, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks! Purplejumper (talk) 15:09, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
- most of the split has now been done - some tidying up, but that can wait for another time! Purplejumper (talk) 15:10, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
Happisburgh in Pop Culture
[edit]Hello, I'm starting this discussion as I had done substantial editing on the pop culture section which has all been deleted in one fell swoop - it can't have been that bad! Any advice on improving it and bringing it back is very welcome! Purplejumper (talk) 19:39, 5 October 2026 (UTC)
- I've reinstated the paragraph on Windy Old Weather as this is significant and well sourced Purplejumper (talk) 07:47, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
- I've reinstated the para on the lighthouse as the misunderstanding about the paint from Challenge Anneka has entered local folklore. This ref mught be useful too https://www.explorenorfolkuk.co.uk/happisburgh-lighthouse.html Purplejumper (talk) 21:00, 7 October 2026 (UTC)
- I've reinstated a para on A Warning to the Curious Purplejumper (talk) 22:43, 12 October 2026 (UTC)
The Church
[edit]This entry needs improving. I will do a little this evening, but it needs an overhaul - all help/ suggestions greatfully received! Purplejumper (talk) 20:19, 8 October 2026 (UTC)
- I've done a bit, and the references could do with reinforcing, but it will do for now! Purplejumper (talk) 21:06, 8 October 2026 (UTC)
