vaishnav hinduism or brahmanism
[edit]Kumargupt was the worshipper of Lord Kartikeya (son of Lord Shiva, his vehicle is peacock). So i think showing vaishnav hinduism as official religion is misleading. ~2026-52379-5 (talk) 12:10, 24 January 2026 (UTC)

KingRJ10 (talk) 07:57, 9 May 2026 (UTC) == Edit request: Add Puranic references to core territory ==
Explanation of issue: The current article lacks primary textual references regarding the original homeland or early territorial extent of the Gupta Empire. Adding the specific verses from the Vayu Purana and Vishnu Purana provides important geographical markers (Prayaga, Saketa, Magadha) shall be considered to define the kingdom's scope prior to Samudragupta's expansions.
Text to be added:
Puranic references to early territory
[edit]The core territory of the early Gupta Empire is described in several Puranas, with the Vayu Purana providing the most detailed metrical verse. It's perhaps the only and the most significant verse which outlines the original homeland or the extent of the kingdom during the reign of the early Gupta kings.
The verse from the Vayu Purana (99.383). It lists the core regions as the areas along the Ganga, Prayaga (modern Prayagraj), Saketa (Ayodhya), and Magadha (South Bihar).
अनुगङ्गं प्रयागं च साकेतं मगधांस्तथा ।
एताञ्जनपदान्सर्वान् भोक्ष्यन्ते गुप्तवंशजाः ॥anugaṅgaṃ prayāgaṃ ca sāketaṃ magadhāṃstathā |
etāñjanapadānsarvān bhokṣyante guptavaṃśajāḥ ||"The kings born of the Gupta dynasty will enjoy all these territories: the land along the Ganges, Prayaga, Saketa, and Magadha."
The Vishnu Purana (4.24.63) contains a similar description within its Vamshanucharita (dynastic) section.
अनुगङ्गं प्रयागं मागधा गुप्ताश्च भोक्ष्यन्ति ।
anugaṅgaṃ prayāgaṃ māgadhā guptāśca bhokṣyanti |
"The Guptas will enjoy the territory along the Ganges from Magadha to Prayaga."
These verses are significant for mapping the historical geography of the early empire.
