Because they sponsered an award at the Golden Joysticks. Hope it's relevent enough to stay, I know it's been deleted before for being a poor article! BulbaThor (talk) 21:26, 30 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

NPOV and Other Issues

[edit]

The second paragraph in the article's introduction (Because the only aspect of the downloads that are classified as 'pre-owned' is the previously used activation code, it has been suggested that the website is a 'glorified rental service'[3] and as the actual game downloaded will be new to the player, the status of pre-owned 'makes no difference to the end user'.[3]) is not written from a NPOV. Text could be kept, perhaps in a "controversies" like section, but it does not belong in the opening of this article in its current form. It also needs to be made clear that many games purchased via GMG are not able to be traded in, such as those activated via a user's Steam account. 72.145.224.166 (talk) 06:54, 12 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I just discovered this website from a promotion they're running. It feels like "trade-in value" would depend exclusively on the kinds of DRM each individual game was secured with; if it's too weak they may not be able to disable the game, if the DRM is too strong they can't control the key? Odysseus (talk) 21:10, 11 May 2013 (UTC)Reply
Article is written more as an advertorial for the company as it lists the company's history and achievements in excessive depth. In particular, the last paragraph of the Achievements section paints GMG in an overly positive light. Backfiah (talk) 08:08, 20 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
Would removing the last paragraph cut it? I agree it's way too positive. Joolzter (talk) 06:09, 30 March 2015 (UTC)Reply
I suppose that'd get rid of most of the bias, yes. I'm not that experienced with NPOV disputes, so if anybody else had an opinion on the issue, that'd be great. Backfiah (talk) 10:22, 3 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Cleanup Issues

[edit]

Flagging this article for multiple issues. Feel that there needs to be additional citations to establish notability; for example, using a LinkedIn as a source is discouraged per WP:ELNO. Good chunk of the article does not appear to adhere to WP:NPOV guidelines. Some sections shout self-promotion, and a lot of copyediting needs to be done. Establishing notability should be the litmus test. JRHorse (talk) 03:26, 6 August 2021 (UTC)Reply

Proposed full rewrite / edit request

[edit]

Proposed full rewrite

[edit]

I am a paid editor working on behalf of Green Man Gaming and am requesting a review of a full rewrite of this article in line with Wikipedia’s conflict of interest guidelines.

The current page is outdated and missing several recent developments supported by reliable sources.

A full draft has been prepared in my sandbox:

User:OliviaSwipeRight Summary of changes:

  • Rewritten structure for clarity and neutrality
  • Updated with independent reliable sources
  • Removed outdated or unsourced material
  • Expanded coverage of recent developments

I understand that full replacements are subject to review and am happy for editors to merge or adapt sections as appropriate.

Thank you for your time and consideration. OliviaSwipeRight (talk) 16:46, 23 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Not done Please use reliable independent secondary sourcing for claims. Much of the draft currently relies on Green Man Gaming's own website, press releases, blogs, or material which is generally not suitable per WP:ABOUTSELF and WP:V. The draft also includes a good amount of promotional or routine corporate detail which would need trimmed or rewritten, as well. ◦ Sibshops (talk) 19:22, 23 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the review and helpful feedback.
I have revised the draft in my sandbox to better align with Wikipedia’s sourcing and neutrality guidelines. In particular:
Replaced or removed material that relied on primary sources such as the company website, press releases, and blogs
Added more independent, secondary sources where available
Trimmed or rewritten sections that contained promotional or routine corporate detail
Improved overall tone to better reflect a neutral point of view
The updated draft can be found here:
User:OliviaSwipeRight
I would appreciate it if you could take another look when convenient, and I am happy to make any further adjustments needed.
Thank you again for your time. OliviaSwipeRight (talk) 15:59, 22 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Could we start smaller? Maybe we can focus on updating the infobox.
Do you have an annual report or SEC filing similar to other pages like Intel, Accenture, Saber Interactive, Devolver Digital, etc.. ◦ Sibshops (talk) 16:14, 22 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
== Edit request: infobox updates ==
Thank you for your guidance — I’m happy to continue with a focused, incremental update.
I would like to propose the following addition to the infobox:
  • Founders: Paul Sulyok and Lee Packham
Sources:
Please let me know if these sources are appropriate or if alternative sourcing would be preferred.
Thank you for your time. OliviaSwipeRight (talk) 13:30, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Do you have an Annual Report or SEC filing? Those are generally used for sourcing infoboxs for companies. ◦ Sibshops (talk) 14:02, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
Oh I just didn't know how to navigate that site, I see the filing. Yeah you can take information from there to propose an update to the infobox.
◦ Sibshops (talk) 14:17, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
TechCrunch and VentureBeat/GamesBeat do not have a clear "generally reliable" consensus at WP:RSP, so I would be cautious about relying on them for infobox material when stronger sourcing is available. The better option here is the Companies House filing record for routine corporate details under WP:ABOUTSELF. I can't find a filing which supports the infobox content, though. Do you have the direct filing? ◦ Sibshops (talk) 14:35, 23 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
== Edit request: infobox updates ==
Thank you for your guidance — I have limited this request to information supported by Companies House filings, as advised.
I would like to propose the following updates to the infobox:
To add:
  • Name: Green Man Gaming Limited
  • Type: Private limited company
  • Industry: Video Games industry
  • Area Served: 195 countries
No change to:
  • Type of site: E-commerce
  • Founded: 2009
  • Headquarters: London, United Kingdom
  • Launched: 10 May 2010
  • Key people: Paul Sulyok (CEO and founder)
  • URL: www.greenmangaming.com
  • Current status: Active
Source:
I have not included additional fields (such as founders, industry, or area served) at this stage, as they are not directly supported by Companies House filings.
Please let me know if this is appropriate or if any adjustments are needed.
Thank you for your time.

Hi @Sibshops, please let me know if this is okay? OliviaSwipeRight (talk) 14:53, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hm, I don't fully understand your request. You are saying "Area Served" is something to be added, but then later say that "area served" is not supported?
Also, area served doesn't seem to be standard infobox material, so I don't believe it should be included. Jagex, Team17, Sumo Digital, or Frontier Developments, for reference. ◦ Sibshops (talk) 15:08, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry @Sibshops, I understand your confusion and to confirm I would like to add the proposed:
I would like to propose the following updates to the infobox:
To add:
  • Name: Green Man Gaming Limited
  • Type: Private limited company
  • Industry: Video Games industry
  • Area Served: 195 countries
No change to:
  • Type of site: E-commerce
  • Founded: 2009
  • Headquarters: London, United Kingdom
  • Launched: 10 May 2010
  • Key people: Paul Sulyok (CEO and founder)
  • URL: www.greenmangaming.com
  • Current status: Active
Source:
I have seen Area Served appear in different Infoboxes, example: Interserve Uniqlo but do let me know if this term doesn't work here?
Thanks! OliviaSwipeRight (talk) 15:36, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Your examples are not comparable UK gaming companies, so I don't think "area served" should be added. It would be better to stick to routine corporate details that are directly supported by the Companies House filing, or uncontroversial information from Green Man Gaming's own website per WP:ABOUTSELF. ◦ Sibshops (talk) 15:52, 5 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks so much for explaining @Sibshops. Would it be possible to update the below, from information in companies house filings -
To add:
  • Name: Green Man Gaming
  • Type: Private limited company
  • Industry: Video Games industry
No change to:
  • Type of site: E-commerce
  • Founded: 2009
  • Headquarters: London, United Kingdom

Could you add the proposed infobox changes to the sandbox draft first? It will help me review the changes together and compare the proposed changes to the source. If everything looks good, it would also make it easier to copy into the article. ◦ Sibshops (talk) 12:26, 6 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. I've now updated the sandbox draft with the proposed infobox changes so they can be reviewed alongside the cited sources.
The sandbox can be found here:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:OliviaSwipeRight&action=edit
Please let me know if any of the proposed fields require adjustment or additional sourcing. OliviaSwipeRight (talk) 11:51, 15 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Sibshops OliviaSwipeRight (talk) 11:51, 15 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Sibshops, please let me know if this is okay? OliviaSwipeRight (talk) 12:37, 24 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I don't see the proposed changes in the sandbox? Did you link to the right page? ◦ Sibshops (talk) 13:00, 24 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have linked again here: User:OliviaSwipeRight, thank you @Sibshops! OliviaSwipeRight (talk) 13:20, 24 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Changes made, I believe. I included the source inline with the infobox. Let me know if it looks good. ◦ Sibshops (talk) 13:53, 24 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for implementing the infobox changes — I appreciate your help with reviewing and adjusting that.
I’ve now drafted a revised History section in the sandbox which focuses on the key independently sourced milestones (founding, Capsule, Playfire acquisition, publishing division, IPO plans, and Playing for the Planet Alliance), and removes more routine operational detail.
Link here: User:OliviaSwipeRight
Before I move it into the article, could you please take a look and let me know if this version would be suitable for replacement, or if you’d prefer further trimming or adjustments?
I’m happy to refine it further to align with Wikipedia’s sourcing and style guidelines.
Thanks again for your time and guidance @Sibshops. OliviaSwipeRight (talk) 15:53, 24 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Sibshops,
I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to follow up on my previous message regarding the proposed History section update in the sandbox, in case it had slipped down your watchlist.
Whenever you have a chance, I'd be grateful if you could take a look and let me know whether the proposed revision is on the right track, or if you'd recommend any further changes before it could be considered for the article.
Thank you again for your help with the infobox update and for your guidance throughout the process. OliviaSwipeRight (talk) 11:33, 26 June 2026 (UTC)Reply
Done This is a substantial improvement over the current article. Stronger secondary sources and trims excessive detail. ◦ Sibshops (talk) 14:26, 3 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi Sibshops,
Thanks again for the feedback on the History section.
I’ve also drafted a proposed update to the lead in the sandbox [User:OliviaSwipeRight], to bring it more in line with the revised article.
Would you mind taking a look at this as well and letting me know whether you think this would be appropriate for the lead, or if you’d suggest any changes to the wording or level of detail?
Thanks again for your help! OliviaSwipeRight (talk) 13:08, 16 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Hi @Sibshops ,
Just wanted to follow up on my message above when you have a chance. I’ve drafted the proposed update to the lead in the sandbox and would really appreciate your thoughts on whether the wording and level of detail would be suitable for the article.
No rush at all — just wanted to make sure it hadn’t got lost!
Thanks again for all your help with this. OliviaSwipeRight (talk) 14:41, 29 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

For your proposed changes to the lead. "Green Man Gaming is a British online video game retailer, distributor, and publisher. Headquartered in London, the company sells digital games for multiple platforms, including PC and Xbox, to customers in approximately 195 countries." I think the first sentence is an improvement, the second one could be improved to better summarize the important parts of the article body. ◦ Sibshops (talk) 12:43, 1 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
