Leland Sklar omitted from Touring personnel line-up

[edit]

Leland Sklar seems to have been omitted from the Touring personnel line-up? 109.153.31.153 (talk) 12:19, 15 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

He was never an official touring member as far as I know Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:56, 22 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Peter Gabriel is a founding member

[edit]

Introductory paragraph is misleading. Peter Gabriel, a founding member of the band, is referred to as having been "also included" in the 1970s. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2603:8001:b400:6a44:6c7e:8410:8b1:42ee (talk) 19:07, 6 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

What should be the lead image in the infobox? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 09:58, 22 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Image 2 or 5 Both of these are the best fit for this page and the best photos overall. 🥑GUACPOCALYPSE🥑 00:00, 13 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
Image 1 : Current image (from 2022)
Image 2 : Proposed image (from 1978)
Image 3 : Previous longstanding image (from 2007)
Image 4 : Other candidate (from 1971) showing all five principal members
Image 5 : Other candidate (from 1980)
Image 6 : Color image (from 1991)

I noticed that my lead image change was reverted by User:Ritchie333. While the current image isn't bad (and in color), I think that my proposed image is better because it was taken during their "prime" (somewhat subjective but they were certainly more active and popular then), and I also think they look much more flattering in the proposed image. Other images do exist of Genesis, but to prevent the discussion from bloating early I'm starting with these two. I'd like to hear your thoughts Ritchie333, and those of anybody else. Dantus21 (talk) 23:46, 21 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

I think we need to get a consensus on many images, not just these two, and I was going to start a discussion at some point but hadn't quite got round to it. Let me go and grab some of the other candidates. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 06:28, 22 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Okay, I've added a wider choice of images. Assuming that Genesis are defunct as a touring band (again), and having a contemporary image isn't the best fit, I'd personally go for Image 5. It looks slightly better than Image 2, and as it's from 1980 it sits fairly in the centre of the band's mainstream career, which seems a good balance. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 10:00, 22 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Comment. I support using an image from their prime. Using a more current image in someways misrepresents the topic when placed at the top in the infobox. The infobox image should be targeted at when the band was most relevant which would be the 1970s/1980s. Images 2, 4, and 5 are all acceptable choices. I would pass on images 1 and 3.4meter4 (talk) 01:53, 23 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

  • Image 1, a recent, high-quality photo. We should avoid using dated (old) photos as the lead image to show that the subject is still around. Like with biographies, when people die, their images are usually replaced with one of them in their prime. I think that should apply here, too. SWinxy (talk) 21:12, 23 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
This subject isn't still around. The band separated after their last tour in 2022. pickalittletalkalittle🐤🐤🐤talk a lot pick a little more 16:03, 29 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
  • I don't know much about this band, but I prefer Image 2 or 5 for the infobox (I'm assuming the three men in those pics are the current members of the band). Image 1 could be placed in the #2020–2022:_The_Last_Domino?_Tour section, and Image 4 is fine where it's at in the #1970–1972:_Collins_and_Hackett_join_and_Nursery_Cryme section. Comment. I do not have a particularly strong opinion on the matter, although I do feel that a photo from their most creative and/or successful period may be more relevant than a recent one. On the other hand, I feel it is a pity that the photos from their prime are in black and white. I would prefer a photo in colour. Since we can't have it all, I would have no objection against either one of these five. Mark in wiki (talk) 13:37, 25 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

I've put up a colour photograph, taken by the photographer of Bowler / Dray's book (used as a key source in this article), if that's any help. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:14, 25 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the trouble, but this addition does not help to swing my vote one way or another. The one perfect photo of Genesis may be out there, but it's not on Commons (yet), I guess... Mark in wiki (talk) 14:30, 25 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Of all these, image 5 is closest to what the photo should be: an illustration for the article's content, so the reader could recognise them from their work as a band (album covers, album/tour promo photos etc). The bulk of which is about the 1970s to 1990s so showing recent photos of very old men and poor Phil in a wheelchair certainly won't do that. Be nice if a better photo from, say, 1980-1986 would appear on Commons but you're stuck with what's there.ToaneeM (talk) 11:24, 13 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Who play what in the beginning?

[edit]

The writer(s) of the beginning of the biography (at least, I stopped because of that miss of clarity) assume that we know what member play what instrument, of course, we can look on each one's page, but that's not how a musician biography is written, only the drummer has his role given, please add clear roles of the band members in the biography! ~2026-50558-23 (talk) 12:07, 19 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
