Are there any details as to why GIS Day was picked to fall on the third Wednesday of November? It just seems almost random. There has to be a reason, right? Ramgarden (talk) 18:57, 12 September 2024 (UTC)Reply

Hello, the reason is that GIS Day was chosen as the Wednesday in Geography Awareness Week, which falls during the third week of November each year. GAW, or GeoWeek as it has also come to be called, was begun in 1987.

I will be working on this page, which has broken links and missing information, over the coming months. We may also propose a new, separate page for Geography Awareness Week. Interestingly, although it came first, GIS Day is much better known. Thirdrockdc (talk) 21:15, 9 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
