Is it not a bit misrepresentative to term Movimento Cinque Stelle as primarily left-wing? Such a label partly ignores the political nuance that is more or less unique to this party. I reviewed some of the sources - they seem to be analysing more of a general trend towards the political left within the party which doesn’t seem to be acknowledged in any definitive way by the party itself. M5S still at the very least purports itself to be a big-tent, syncretic movement independent of the political spectrum, which is a key cornerstone of their ideology and has defined their stances to key policy issues. This is acknowledged in the listed sources on note A. It would be better to replace it with “Big tent or left-wing” (which has been done before, for example the label “Big tent or far-right” on the page for Italexit) for better representation.

Note: I don’t intend to advertise any specific ideology here, or to misrepresent the political scheme in a biased way. I am aware that politics is a contentious issue, and I only wish to improve clarity. Please do correct me if you think I’m wrong. IdaDactyl (talk) 07:24, 27 August 2026 (UTC)

I agree that the M5S is not left-wing, but I strongly oppose having "big tent" (as it is not a position) and I acknowledge that the current consensus is the outcome of a long discussion, resulted in "left-wing" with note. In my view, the party is centre-left these days and there are probably more sources for "centre-left" than "left-wing", but I fear opening an endless discussions anew. Surely, as I said, "big tent" is non-starter for me and, for now, I defend the status quo. --Checco (talk) 20:27, 28 August 2026 (UTC)

There have been several discussions in the past, but no real consensus has ever been reached. I agree with IdaDactyl, it would be better to define the position as "Big tent or left-wing," since there aren't many authoritative sources describing the M5S as a left-wing party, a label Giuseppe Conte himself rejects. Furthermore, I reiterate that Big Tent is a generally accepted political position, which describes many ruling parties in their respective countries: United Russia, Ädilet, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, Cambodian People's Party, Cameroon People's Democratic Movement etc.--Scia Della Cometa (talk) 22:24, 29 August 2026 (UTC)

I am going to be removing mentions of "basic income" - which links to universal basic income - from this page.

The Five Star Movement never appears to have supported a universal basic income. The "citizen's income" it has advocated appears to have always been conditional, and therefore never actually universal. Here are two supporting sources:

We should not conflate the "citizen's income" that this party supports/supported and a universal basic income. A conditional income is not the same as a universal basic income. Helper201 (talk) 23:58, 5 September 2026 (UTC)
