I checked the citation because I don't understand how at 1000 crimes you can get a tattoo when they supposedly kill you at 200. The problem is that the description is horribly misleading. What the source says is that for instance the "kinds of crimes to which tattooing is applicable amount to 1000," eg what I take is that there are 1,000 different offenses (slander, robbery, laviciousness, etc) to which it is regarded as the appropriate punishment. This also makes sense because then there are FEWER types of crimes that, say, death is applicable for. 138.51.121.238 (talk) 18:17, 25 April 2016 (UTC)

Section title capitalization

Not sure how they should be as they begin with "The...", but they are inconsistent. eg. "The Five Punishments for Serfs" and "The Five Punishments for female offenders". Anna Frodesiak (talk) 03:57, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

More importantly, "punishment for slaves" and "punishments for serfs" are direct translations from Marxist Chinese literature, which imposes the categories "slave society" and "feudal society" to different eras of Chinese history. Remittance Payments

Description of Punishments needs clean up

The text references things the descriptions don't provide:

"The number of crimes to which the punishment was applicable is listed next to each one."

Then the footnote [6] is not relevant to that sentence.

Suggestions:

-Convert to table - Header: [Punishment / Description / Applicable Crimes]
