Negative Production Externality Figure Incorrect?

[edit]

This url shows a different figure for negative externality in production. https://www.economicsonline.co.uk/market_failures/externalities.html/

Logically, the wiki figure is incorrect. A negative externality in production means that the socially optimal production should be lower and the equilibrium price should be higher. The figure has all of this backwards. An example to consider is pollution from a factory; negative externality in production. Society would be better off with less production from the factory with less pollution and a higher price for the factory output. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Opulent1 (talk • contribs) 23:21, 10 May 2022 (UTC)Reply

I've decided to remove it, along with the positive production externality figure, as it is also incorrect. Surprised it wasn't removed earlier. ARandomName123 (talk) 15:26, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Incorrect production externality graphs

[edit]

Both graphs for the positive and negative production externalities are incorrect.

Please see: Negative externalities (economicsonline.co.uk) and Positive Externalities - Economics Help.

The creator of the graphs seems to have flipped private marginal cost and social marginal cost. I've decided to remove both graphs, but a second opinion would be appreciated, along with a check of the other two graphs. ARandomName123 (talk) 15:25, 15 May 2023 (UTC)Reply

Origin

[edit]

While not exactly naming it as such, Marx did talk about the concept in his works. MisterCauliflower2137 (talk) 13:57, 3 January 2025 (UTC)Reply

Likely AI text

[edit]

Hi - I tagged this article as likely AI generated, as the edits by Talejaschulze and Roy Melki display strong indicators of LLM use, and thus the text needs review for accuracy, source-to-text integrity, original research/editorializing, and the like. I believe that the article is clear from Roy Melki's LLM contributions with my edit and someone else's earlier edit. The Talejaschulze LLM contributions still need to be removed - they look more complicated to fix. Boud (talk) 18:38, 26 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
An alternative to removing is rewriting from scratch, or, at the cost of a huge amount of work (more than rewriting those three edits from scratch), checking for accuracy, source-to-text integrity, original research/editorializing, and the like. Boud (talk) 18:42, 26 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Solutions for externalities

[edit]

Should we also include solutions for positive externalities? ~2026-56165-33 (talk) 18:54, 27 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
