POV-check

The entire Concepts section sounds like it was written by the DG marketing department. I removed the more egregious NPOV violations, but more checking is needed.--TexasDex 14:58, 28 November 2006 (UTC)

Have you ever shop there? There is some really nice stuff and often near or better then old walmart prices.

I worked there for over a year, and while I don't disagree that they have some good and cheap products Wikipedia has certain standards for neutrality, including neutral tone and not presenting points of view or opinions as fact. Looking at it again, I think the "Concepts" section most definitely violates those principles. Whoever rewrites this (it might be me if I ever have any free time) will have to reword and trim that section in particular to ensure neutrality. --TexasDex 08:05, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

The first picture looked like a retailer converted to DG, and the second one looks like a CGI pic from a pamphlet. I've replaced it with a picture I took myself of the new DG store in my hometown — I would think it'd be best if the picture shows a "default" store design. Company Motto-DG is actively Christian?

I worked at its headquarters from October 2017 to November 2018. During that time, I didn't observe any active company support of any religion or proof of former support for any religion, but I did observe active internal support of a few anti-Christian causes. Conflicting statements

"As of July 2018, Dollar General operates 15,000 stores[4][1] in the 48 contiguous United States." North Dakota

Hi, I made an edit in "Dollar General" on Wikipedia. I am in North Dakota. First time, I went to DG in Steele, ND in August 2019. DG, the same Mini-Walmart. I drove through and across North Dakota. I suddenly saw these DG stores in Steele, Elgin, Hazen, Beulah, Grafton, Cavalier, Langdon, Gwinner, Belfield, Richardton, Edgeley, Ellendale, Bowman, Valley City, West Fargo, Lakota, 2 Minot, Underwood and Center. Multiple DG Stores in multiple very small towns in all over North Dakota. Counted 42 DG Stores in North Dakota. --Rossdegenstein (talk) 10:34, 13 March 2021 (UTC)

To include or not to include mass shooting at Dollar General Jacksonville location

A reference to the mass shooting at a Dollar General in Jacksonville earlier this month had previously been added to the 2003-present history section of the article by @SuperbowserX, which was later removed by @Counterfeit Purses. References to mass shootings that have occurred in chains have been included and not included in their articles for different reasons.

For example, in 2022 there was a mass shooting at a Tops Supermarket in Buffalo, New York, and while a mention of the shooting was originally added to the article, it was later decided that it should be removed due to the fact that it did not effect the business as a whole, and just impacted one location.

On the other hand, when there was a mass shooting at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas, it was decided that a reference to the shooting should be kept due to the fact that shooting impacted the way that the company would conduct its business, such as changing its policy in relation to the sale of firearms.

While it is also true that with other mass shootings that had occurred at businesses, such as the most recent other example with the Cook's Corner article mentioning the mass shooting that occurred there earlier this month despite no clear overarching impact to business, these locations are not chains, so the impact to the business is much more clear in that sense.

For this reason, and to avoid any possible edit warring I have brought this up here. Personally, in accordance to how the shootings were handled in regard to the Tops and Walmart articles, I am in favor of not including a reference to the shooting unless something significant changes as a result of this shooting in the business. ~~ RaskBunzzz (talk) 09:29, 30 August 2023 (UTC)

No produce

WP:NOTFORUM (direct your questions to Dollar General itself; we have nothing to do with the company). However, I'll note that the article somewhat addresses your question. Hello. I run safetyincidents.org, which indexes U.S. federal OSHA enforcement records (inspections, citations, penalties, and severe-injury reports) by employer. I therefore have a conflict of interest and am not editing the article directly.

The "OSHA fines" subsection already cites several individual penalties: the November 2014 $51,700 fine, the April 2016 $107,620 fine, the December 2021 $321,827 proposal, and the February 2022 $1,048,309 proposal. Readers currently have no single place to see Dollar General's full, ongoing OSHA enforcement history behind those individual figures. I would like to propose adding one supplementary link to the External links section so readers can independently verify the figures and view the complete record:

• Dollar General OSHA enforcement record, federal OSHA inspections, citations, and penalties by establishment, collated by SafetyIncidents.org

This complements the article's existing content and does not contradict it; the underlying data is OSHA's own. The pattern the page aggregates is documented in the U.S. Department of Labor's own reporting, including OSHA's statement that Dollar General has incurred more than $15 million in penalties since 2017 and its placement in the Severe Violator Enforcement Program (OSHA news release, Jan. 26, 2023).
