Reviewer: Travis Mulch (talk · contribs) 01:27, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Did you know ... that the Clop DYK hook gets mentioned in the Wikipedia Discord server basically every 5 minutes? I notice you're stepping in for NRP with nominating. You have 85% authorship, so this obviously isn't a problem. Setting up shop. Travis Mulch (talk) 01:27, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

My schedule will be a little less busy after this weekend so I can help on some stuff if needed, so I'll put myself down as a co-nominator if that's okay with you Silvers Rayleigh (since I nominated the article to begin with). NRP (talk) 02:26, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have no problem with both of you co-nominating & answering questions as long as you attribute/note it somewhere. Travis Mulch (talk) 02:27, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Cool, I'll do that right now. Good luck with the Toby Fox FAC btw, I'll try to give it a review since Undertale has been one of my favorite games since I was a little kid :) NRP (talk) 02:29, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. You wouldn't believe the frustration I've been going through with it. Travis Mulch (talk) 02:30, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Also, "dominator"? Travis Mulch (talk) 03:36, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
...This coming from the person who didn't notice they said "isn't obviously isn't", actually... Travis Mulch (talk) 03:37, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
LOL fixed. NRP (talk) 03:37, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Here's somewhere to hook the comment section from. Travis Mulch (talk) 01:27, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Earwig's Copyvio Detector reports 44.4%, though I can safely chalk these up to false positives due to detected instances of the text "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic". Travis Mulch (talk) 01:29, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Text is properly attributed to authors throughout, where needed. Criteria 2d pass. Travis Mulch (talk) 02:14, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
General review of the article's past 500 edits shows 12 reverts. These can be reasonably assumed to be vandalism/unsourced edits and not accuracy disputes, also noting the article's not currently protected. Criteria 5 pass. Travis Mulch (talk) 01:33, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Article uses 3 fair use images: infobox, history, history 2. Multiple other non-free images were removed by NRP, and previous 15.ai voice clips were removed as well. These are good changes. The infobox image & Lauren Faust's sketch are acceptable uses, though I'm questioning the first History image (series premiere appearance) since it's basically the same as the infobox, barring minor details. The article's non-free images have acceptable rationales. Noting images do not have alt text. Criteria 6a pass, with 6b pending reply. Travis Mulch (talk) 01:41, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Non-reliable web sources (per Cite Unseen) I want to address:
The Daily Dot (c. 2) is "considered fine for citing non-contentious claims of fact" per WP:RSP. Acceptable.
BTVA (c. 7) has a green checkmark next to Tabitha St. Germain's name, so is reliable per WP:A&M/ORS (which is good enough/equivalent to animation). Acceptable.
I have questions about CBR (c. 13). CBR is a Valnet outlet, and is "unreliable" in WP:VGS (for video games). Valnet outlets tend to be marginally reliable, or generally unreliable, for most topics. Could you explain if/why CBR's use is defensible?
Lifehacker (c. 14) should be fine, where it's been stated "later discussions highlighted that the site has (some) editorial oversight." per WP:NPPSG. Acceptable.
All other sources are cited to reliable sources or journal articles. Criteria 2b pending CBR explanation. Travis Mulch (talk) 01:58, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
There are some things in the article's format I have issues with. Is citing all 9 seasons in the "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic" section necessary? "Equestria Girls alternate version" doesn't warrant a separate section, and it's been this way for a while. Connelly (2017) currently links to page 105 (well outside of the cited 125-144), with the key words "bridle gossip" in the Google Books search term, for some reason? It'd also be way better if the Connelly citations were cited to page numbers. Criteria 1b and 2a pending explanation. Travis Mulch (talk) 02:08, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
I have some minor WP:NPOV complaints. Lead mention of Derpy as the brony mascot is unattributed. The way events attributed to Connelly are phrased, particularly with the death threats against Yamino, Amy Rogers analyzing the word "derpy", and the "Bronies who were upset" analogy, can seem kind of editorializing. There's also not a lot of post-2012 retrospective analysis, which, y'know, that's understandable. These are all easily fixable. Criteria 4 passed (conditionally due to ease of fixes). Travis Mulch (talk) 02:26, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Travis Mulch: Thank you for taking the time to review! Sorry for the late response, I'll get to these if @NRP doesn't get to it before I do. Silvers Rayleigh (talk) 19:28, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
No problem. Feel free to hook your comments at the bottom, I'll ask that you either reply to the held criteria in their respective comments or just down below. Travis Mulch (talk) 19:29, 30 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Criteria 1a fail (conditionally until copyedit). There are quite a few errors, here's what I saw during a quick read-through:
  1. Where does the name "Bubbles" come from? It's never mentioned. (Lead)
  2. "become a favorite" -> "became a favorite" (Lead)
  3. "This decision itself generated further controversy" -> We discuss two decisions here. Which decision? (Lead)
  4. (from which her catchphrase "I just don't know what went wrong!" spawned) -> Missing period, "spawned." (MLP:FiM)
  5. "In later seasons, Derpy's appearances becomes more sporadic." -> "..appearances become more..." (MLP:FiM)
  6. "...altered to remove Rainbow Dash saying her name and modified her voice..." -> remove/modify or removed/modified (MLP:FiM)
  7. "Following the episode, fans collectively developed" -> We just discussed a forum post, not an episode. Ambiguous phrasing. (History)
  8. production team "avoided hiding ... before her return" -> "Avoided hiding" is weird from Miller, needs clarification. (History)
Switching tenses is inconsistent. "In the first season, Derpy appears primarily..." Her association with muffins is established..."; "For the second season, Derpy gains scripted-character status..."; "...becomes a Where's Waldo-type easter egg..." Travis Mulch (talk) 02:52, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Singular, small OR violation: attribute "described as a "radical" decision" to Licari-Guillaume. Criteria 2c passed. Travis Mulch (talk) 02:57, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
To the article writers (given I'm not the Derpy Hooves expert), can you confirm the article is broad in "focused" aspects? Some specific things:
  1. FiM ran from 2010-2019, where does "2021" come from?
  2. Does the English-language "derp" term have any relevance internationally?
  3. Outside of random products, was Derpy part of any merchandising campaign?
  4. Any further extended ties to the Background Six in "See also"?
Criteria 3a pass, with 3b pending explanation. Travis Mulch (talk) 03:12, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Placing review on hold until 1a fixes from nominator(s) are made, and after answers for pending criteria are given. Afterwards, will spot check five random articles (5/21, or ~25%) for accuracy, and re-review prose. Travis Mulch (talk) 03:18, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Travis Mulch: I'll get on this within the next few days if Silvers Rayleigh doesn't. NRP (talk) 02:56, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
Heard. Ping me when one of you two address pending criteria and/or finish prose mistakes. Travis Mulch (talk) 03:34, 27 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
GA review checklist
Reviewer's comment Status
1a: Prose, spelling and grammar
Where does the name "Bubbles" come from? It's never mentioned. (Lead)  Done — removed from the lead. Though "Bubbles" is indeed a name that was (or is) used seldomly by members of the fandom, I was surprisingly unable to find WP:RS discussing that name in depth. The closest thing I could find was a DeviantArt post from an FIM animator mentioning the name as one of a few used internally by FIM staff. Almost all sources mention either the name "Derpy", "Ditzy Doo", or "Muffins", but very few mention "Bubbles"; thus, I believe that name may be WP:UNDUE for inclusion unless more sources are found.
"become a favorite" -> "became a favorite" (Lead)  Done
"This decision itself generated further controversy" -> We discuss two decisions here. Which decision? (Lead)  Done
(from which her catchphrase "I just don't know what went wrong!" spawned) -> Missing period, "spawned." (MLP:FiM)  Done
"In later seasons, Derpy's appearances becomes more sporadic." -> "..appearances become more..." (MLP:FiM)  Done
"...altered to remove Rainbow Dash saying her name and modified her voice..." -> remove/modify or removed/modified (MLP:FiM)  Done
"Following the episode, fans collectively developed" -> We just discussed a forum post, not an episode. Ambiguous phrasing. (History)  Done
production team "avoided hiding ... before her return" -> "Avoided hiding" is weird from Miller, needs clarification. (History)  Done
Switching tenses is inconsistent. "In the first season, Derpy appears primarily..." Her association with muffins is established..."; "For the second season, Derpy gains scripted-character status..."; "...becomes a Where's Waldo-type easter egg..."  Done
1b: Manual of Style
Is citing all 9 seasons in the "My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic" section necessary? ? Maybe — This comes from the GA article Twilight Sparkle, which this article was formatted to follow. When Twilight Sparkle was accepted as GA, the article was (and currently is) structured as such. This was left that way for consistency across all of the characters' articles, and I don't think Equestria Girls is officially considered part of G4. Would like to know what you think.
"Equestria Girls alternate version" doesn't warrant a separate section, and it's been this way for a while. ? Maybe — Same reason as above; would like to know what you think.
2a: Reference section
Connelly (2017) currently links to page 105 (well outside of the cited 125-144), with the key words "bridle gossip" in the Google Books search term, for some reason? ? Maybe — I'm using the Amazon ebook version of Connelly's book, so the page numbers will likely be off compared to Google Books. I wasn't able to find a physical copy online.
It'd also be way better if the Connelly citations were cited to page numbers.  Done — All Connelly citations are now cited to page numbers.
2b: Inline citations to reliable sources
I have questions about CBR (c. 13). CBR is a Valnet outlet, and is "unreliable" in WP:VGS (for video games). Valnet outlets tend to be marginally reliable, or generally unreliable, for most topics. Could you explain if/why CBR's use is defensible?  Done — CBR is used exactly once in the article and is being used to support the claim Cailyn Szelinski, writing in Comic Book Resources, ranked Derpy Hooves as the character with the fourth-cutest name in Friendship Is Magic. This claim is actually describing what CBR said about Derpy Hooves, rather than a claim about Derpy Hooves herself; thus, this source is being used as a primary source rather than a secondary source, and per WP:SELFSOURCE, which states questionable sources may be used as sources of information about themselves, we can use this source for this specific purpose since the fact that CBR ranked Derpy Hooves as such is an uncontroversial statement of fact.
2c: Original research
Singular, small OR violation: attribute "described as a "radical" decision" to Licari-Guillaume.  Done
3b: Focus
FiM ran from 2010-2019, where does "2021" come from?  Done — This comes from the GA article Twilight Sparkle, which this article was formatted to follow. When Twilight Sparkle was accepted as GA, the article was (and currently is) structured as such. This is because Pony Life ran from 2019 to 2021, making the official televised run of G4 (the fourth generation) from 2010 to 2021.
Does the English-language "derp" term have any relevance internationally?  Done — No sources discuss the term's use outside English, and the controversy was specific to its English connotations, so wider usage seems out of scope here. Added a brief sourced gloss of what derp means where the name is introduced: The name was derived from the Internet slang term derp, used to refer to something stupid or a stupid facial expression.
Outside of random products, was Derpy part of any merchandising campaign?  Done — no sources describe a dedicated campaign. From what I can glean, her official merchandise was the 2012 SDCC exclusive plus some licensed one-offs. I added some context on Hasbro's targeting of young girls and Funko's brony-aimed line: While Hasbro's own My Little Pony merchandise remained aimed at its core audience of girls aged three to six, some steps were taken to acknowledge its adult fans. Funko, which began producing My Little Pony vinyl figures in 2014, including one of Derpy, explicitly addressed bronies when announcing the line and released some figures as exclusives for retailers such as Hot Topic.
Any further extended ties to the Background Six in "See also"?  Done — added Her most significant later appearance came in "Slice of Life," which gave expanded roles to six of the show's most popular background characters, known among fans as the Background Six, and paired Derpy with Dr. Whooves.
4: Neutral point of view
Lead mention of Derpy as the brony mascot is unattributed.  Done — changed lead sentence to Analysts have described Derpy Hooves as the mascot of the brony fandom, and the show's crew began placing her in the backgrounds of episodes as an easter egg. and added more context to the Reception section.
The way events attributed to Connelly are phrased, particularly with the death threats against Yamino, Amy Rogers analyzing the word "derpy", and the "Bronies who were upset" analogy, can seem kind of editorializing.  Done — rearranged and rephrased that whole section.
6b: Appropriate image use, captions and alt text
The infobox image & Lauren Faust's sketch are acceptable uses, though I'm questioning the first History image (series premiere appearance) since it's basically the same as the infobox, barring minor details. ? Maybe — In my opinion, this image is notable because it is the exact image that Dr. Foreigner posted on /co/ alerting others of Derpy's cross-eyedness, which subsequently spawned the meme. The /co/ post was included as an image in a previous version of this article but has since been removed.
Noting images do not have alt text.  Done — Added alt text to all images

I've gone through the GA review and have made the edits accordingly. Pinging both @NRP: and @Travis Mulch:. Silvers Rayleigh (talk) 02:56, 7 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Silvers Rayleigh I'm satisfied with pretty much all of the answers here. I'll pass criteria 1b (as long as "Equestria Girls alternate version" is merged into Appearances, and not its own section), 2b (CBR use is defensible as explained), 3b, and 6b (non-free media use has already been considerably lowered).
I'll be pending 1a and 2a while I do a second prose run-through & the 25% spot check. Travis Mulch (talk) 15:20, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Travis Mulch:  Done — merged the Equestria Girls section into the Appearances section. Silvers Rayleigh (talk) 16:48, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Great work on everything. Sorry I wasn't able to help more; you don't even have to count me as a co-nom. NRP (talk) 20:03, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I don't mind; I wouldn't have re-nominated the article if you hadn't nominated it first, so that's good enough for me! Silvers Rayleigh (talk) 22:57, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
I did a second prose review, just looking through the article a bit more closely, but the mistakes were too minor to be corrected separately, so I did it myself. I'm more confident in the article's prose now, so 1a pass. @Silvers Rayleigh: I have one question, where did Begin (2015) go? Travis Mulch (talk) 22:52, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Travis Mulch: My bad, that's been fixed now. Silvers Rayleigh (talk) 22:55, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
One small unrelated complaint I didn't really consider until now: pretty sure the muffin's position is a MOS:SANDWICH issue and should be moved. Because of the article's reliance on journals, I'll just say that what I read from Connelly post-page number additions is generally accurate, as are the web articles currently present (which makes 10/23, so that's good enough). I'm going to opt to skip a formal spot check because information's already been properly attributed and those web articles have been verified. Travis Mulch (talk) 23:14, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Not really seeing any significant issues left. I just want to say I hate the university name "University of Colorado Colorado Springs".
Passing the article! Travis Mulch (talk) 23:18, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
