The site maintains a very liberal policy regarding erotic content, imposing restrictions identical to those on FiMFiction.net regarding literature—only the posting of erotic images featuring underage characters who are not ponies is prohibited. There's also a fairly detailed system for labeling published images, this time tied not to the age groups targeted by individual works, but directly to the level of erotic content or violence. Derpiboor's rules indicate that the labeling system is not rigid and is largely at the discretion of users. Shifting the burden of enforcement to the community makes this classification somewhat more blurred than previously discussed. When it comes to labeling erotic content, the site uses four tags: safe, suggestive, questionable, and explicit. While the first category denotes material completely devoid of sexual content, the other three require more detailed discussion. The suggestive category primarily applies to mild erotic themes, such as those most commonly found on DeviantART under the maturecontent tag. It also frequently features images that wouldn't require any additional labeling on DeviantART, such as the drawing titled "Pinkie Pie costume", which features a humanized version of one of the series' female characters in a slightly revealing magician's outfit. Although the image doesn't contain nudity or suggest any sexual context, its "sexy" tone influenced its classification into this category. This demonstrates that the classification adopted on Derpibooru ensures at least a fairly strict separation of materials that evoke, even minimally, erotic associations from those that are completely "safe.""

"The most popular of these sites is called Derpibooru, a combination of a character’s name and a common term for image boards. Derpibooru hosts millions of My Little Pony artworks, plenty of which are simple tributes to magic, friendship, and magical friendship. But a substantial number of them are extremely, jarringly violent. An image that I recently viewed on the site depicts a My Little Pony character presiding over three lynchings and one beheading of cartoons drawn to represent various marginalized groups. Derpibooru even lists “racist” as a searchable category, and more than 900 pieces of art are tagged as such. [...] Derpibooru, which was created that same year as an easy place for bronies to share their art, hosts a wider range of the My Little Pony fandom, including friendly and inclusive fans who don’t feel any personal loyalty to the slur-ridden forums of 4chan. "The Atlantic reports that the owners of Derpibooru, the most popular brony fan-art site, has changed its previously lax policy regarding racist content as a direct response to the Black Lives Matter movement. On June 4, Derpibooru administrators tweeted an official statement saying that “our new policy is that images that appear to have been created to incite controversy or antagonize others in relation to current events will not be welcome on the site. This means that we will be immediately deleting any new uploads that we believe promote racism or attempt to downplay the Black Lives Matter movement.” This statement came after prominent brony creators like Wootmaster and Lightning Chaser faced downvotes and harassment on their BLM art and called for intervention."
