Requested move 30 November 2024

[edit]
The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: not moved. No consensus to move at this point due to WP:CRYSTALBALL. No prejudice against a new RM if the situation does change and becomes clear. (closed by non-admin page mover) Raladic (talk) 21:41, 7 December 2024 (UTC)Reply

Meghna Division → Cumilla Division – as per the latest announcement- https://www.dailynayadiganta.com/chattagram/19671182/বিভাগ-হলে-কুমিল্লা-নামেই-হবে-উপদেষ্টা-আসিফ - Cerium4B • Talk? • 16:18, 30 November 2024 (UTC)Reply

  • Not yet Asif Nazrul said this not as official statement and it has "if". We don't for how long his government will run Bangladesh. It is not clear if the government will implement the proposed division. We can not give guarantee that the next elected government will form this division. And the statement is not even official. We need to wait for official announcement.

Meghna Division → Comilla Division – I propose that the page. On 17 December 2024, the Public Administration Reform Commission of the interim government officially recommended naming the new administrative division “Comilla Division,” page 191 and this has become the de facto designation. Sheikh Hasina’s original proposal to name the division “Meghna Division” is no longer under consideration following her ouster. Since “Meghna Division” no longer reflects the current official nomenclature, retitling the article will ensure accuracy and consistency with government usage. Reasons for Deletion:

[edit]

1.Lack of Official Administrative Status (Non-Notability): While the creation of a separate administrative division out of parts of the Chittagong Division has been floated, discussed, or conditionally proposed at various times by government bodies or officials, it has never been formally finalized, gazetted, or brought into legal existence by the competent national authorities (such as NICAR). Under Wikipedia's content guidelines, speculative future events or unrealized administrative proposals fail to meet the threshold of encyclopedic permanence unless they receive sustained, independent coverage proving long-term historical significance independent of political speculation.

2.Violation of "Wikipedia is Not a Crystal Ball": Articles tracking administrative units that are merely proposed or frequently delayed/postponed rely heavily on transient news reports. Documenting administrative changes before they are officially implemented violates the core policy that Wikipedia is not a repository for speculation, rumors, or unfulfilled political declarations.

3.Redundancy and Content Saturation: Information concerning the geography, demographics, and history of this specific region is already comprehensively covered under existing, stable articles such as [[:Comilla District]], [[:Comilla]], and the broader [[:Chittagong Division]]. Maintaining a separate page for a "Division" that exists primarily as a conceptual proposal creates an artificial fork of content and invites unverified speculation.
