20 years late to the party, but it stands for Prosopographia Imperii Romani, a prosopographical work which attempts to chart the existence of every single high-profile person in the empire. There's a wikipedia page about it now. - Cy4zur3, 15 June 2026
Note on Date of Death
[edit]Previous edits have disagreed over whether Claudia Augusta died in May or April. The Latin passage in Tacitus (Annals 15.23) where she dies claims that "quartum intra mensem defuncta infante." The "quartum... mensem" there means 4 months, and the Romans counted months inclusively; four months after January therefore means April. - Cy4zur3, 15 June 2026 — Preceding undated comment added 08:29, 15 June 2026 (UTC)
