Flag Of Chile

[edit]

The article has a little excerpt at the end of "Flag of Chile" that states that the current flag is inspired in the U.S flag. "However, like the Texan flag, the flag of Chile is modeled after the flag of the United States." The citation comes from a site called "World Atlas", which makes this claim with no citation or anything that can be corroborated by sources. This is inaccurate at best. This link (https://web.archive.org/web/20090922201116/http://www.chileatento.com/chile/chile_texto.asp?codigo=38), cited in the spanish article explains what is the inspiration and symbology of the current flag, taking into account the slight changes that has had in subsequent times. The Chilean flag is an iteration of the old flags and indigenous Mapuche symbols. I think that source (world atlas) and the other generally cited (CIA world factbook, discontinued as 2026) are extremely poor sources that lack depth and accuracy and should not be used because they perpetuate false and misleading information, and an Encyclopedia is not a collection of factoids, nor should aspire to be one (this is just my opinion, though) ~2026-93652-1 (talk) 14:30, 11 February 2026 (UTC)Reply

Rename this article to Chile (country)

[edit]

Chile has more definitions other than a country. Should we rename this page to Chile (country) and have this page a disambiguation page? Mister Questioner (talk) 21:25, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Chile is the most important / relevant 'chile' out there, all the other Chiles are the Chile (other thing) pages TLA is a three letter acronym (talk) 21:27, 5 April 2026 (UTC)Reply

Languages spoken

[edit]

While the languages spoken section might be accurate, they give the impression they might be commonly spoken like maybe the India article shows. But that is not the case. Can there be a way of telling visitors that while Mapudungun, Rapa Nui, Even Creole from immigration is spoken is not at all a common occurrence? ~2026-48428-08 (talk) 01:31, 7 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello team Wikipedia, could you please replace the following parapragh on the English language page for "Chile", under "Sports", to update the information:

Remove: At the Summer Olympic Games Chile boasts a total of two gold medals (tennis), seven silver medals (athletics, equestrian, boxing, shooting and tennis) and four bronze medals (tennis, boxing and football). In 2012, Chile won its first Paralympic Games medal (gold in Athletics).

Corrected text: At the Summer Olympic Games Chile boasts a total of three gold medals (tennis singles, tennis doubles and skeet shooting), eight silver medals (marathon, equestrian teams, equestrian singles, javelin throw, boxing, skeet shooting, tennis singles and wrestling) and four bronze medals (2 in boxing, football and tennis singles)[1]. In 2024, Chile won its first women's gold medal thanks to Francisca Crovetto in Skeet Shooting[2]. In 2012, Chile won its first Paralympic Games medal (gold in Athletics), winning 12 more since, including 6 by Alberto Abarza in swimming in 2020 and 2024 [3]. Chile has never won a medal in the Winter Olympic Games. Chileno888 (talk) 13:03, 13 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
