[edit]to help improve the article it is necessary to maintain the public domain texts an editor removed. They are examples of XIX century same sex relationship, moreover they are not contemporary people discussing of the past but the very own words of those people.
Readded the texts and added two more references. Therefore removing template.
Question: Should footnote 24 and the blockquote that shares footnote 4 cite William Cullen Bryant's work directly ( https://books.google.ca/books?id=ztuhAdRKxAUC&pg=PA136 ) rather than a book it was quoted in? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-46782-24 (talk) 15:11, 28 August 2026 (UTC)
- Hello! The Wikipedia policies on primary, secondary and tertiary sources WP:PSTS are helpful for understanding why long excerpts from primary sources were removed from this article. Citing secondary sources is important because they can validate the legitimacy of primary sources and also ensure that editors are not relying on WP:OR to analyze, interpret, or synthesize primary sources. Although primary sources about Bryant and Drake are certainly important in LGBTQ+ history because they are historical examples of queer people describing their experiences in their own words, Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and not a compendium of primary sources.
