Seems like he’s also of Irish descent right? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8A0:E950:FE00:9A3:1B9E:27A:A8D2 (talk) 13:59, 18 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

THE Philadelphia Union

[edit]

Please stop changing the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer to Major League Soccer club Philadelphia Union. This is just an incorrect, inaccurate way to refer to the team. Just because Sullivan is a footballer/soccer player does not mean we adhere to these traditional one-size-fits-all models for the lead section. In American sports, teams that have a "mascot" name (e.g. Patriots, Chiefs, Warriors, Heat, etc.) are called the CityName MascotName, like the Golden State Warriors or the Philadelphia Phillies. There is no way to argue around this.
From that, you can understand why the lead sections for such teams (like the Philadelphia Union) should say the Philadelphia Union of Major League Soccer. You can't say "Major League Soccer club the Philadelphia Union," and "Major League Soccer club Philadelphia Union" is like I previously said fundamentally incorrect.
For other examples in American sports, look at Joel Embiid, Patrick Mahomes, Bryce Harper, and LeBron James. Paul Vaurie (talk) 16:19, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

The [league] club [team] format is consistent with other articles about association football players and also people playing in American soccer leagues. Yes, you can find all sorts of weird leads across the association football space, but those likely should be changed. There is no American sportspeople lead section WikiProject guidance to go off of.
