Caliphate was a good articles nominee, but did not meet the good article criteria at the time. There may be suggestions below for improving the article. Once these issues have been addressed, the article can be renominated. Editors may also seek a reassessment of the decision if they believe there was a mistake.

Just to clarify, I changed “many Muslims” to “the majority of ...” based on the cited wording.
If the source supports “many” more accurately, I’m happy to adjust. Could you point to the relevant part of the citation so we can align the wording with it?

I think the Fatimids should be mentioned as the fourth caliphate. aliphate, as there's a whole section about it in this article, and the description for the Famitid page says it's the fourth one. For sources, I'd suggest The Ventures of Islam, by Marshall HodgsonPortugueseWikiMan (talk) 16:04, 15 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

We should add an infobox to it although the caliphate was held by various empires yet the core office was same being leader of Muslims and was recognized and succeeding prophet Muhammad. And there is great agreement in Muslim world and outside Muslim works that Abu bakr was the first caliph and Abdülmecid II being the last. A$ianeditorz (talk) 03:54, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for bringing this to the talk page. However, the article itself makes it clear that what you're saying is a major oversimplification of the topic, if not altogether inaccurate. As you said yourself, the position did not even belong to one single state or polity. Therefore, this is an article about a title or type of ruler in general; similar to King, Emperor, & Sultan, which also don't have infoboxes. An infobox is only useful if it can help readers understand the basic topic more quickly; in this case (including here), it would almost certainly mislead or confuse. If there's an infobox template that is somehow able to accommodate this type of topic (I'm not aware of any), feel free to mention it and we can reconsider. Otherwise, we should not be using an infobox in this article.R Prazeres (talk) 15:11, 8 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
There is difference. It's not only title page but also covers details of history basically the article of caliphate office. And about sultan, king and emperor, there is 2 pages already similar to it Khalifa and Amir al-muminin. I think as official continuation of office it should have an infobox also it will help users to understand that although the office shifted between empires it was the same office after all. It will also help understanding Muslim community about the history of heads of the community. A$ianeditorz (talk) 00:08, 9 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
