German or Polish?
[edit]It says that Metreweli is the German spelling, but the reference does not verify this at all.
Given that her father was also known as Dobrowolski (see https://www.thegazette.co.uk/London/issue/44092/page/9354/data.pdf) when he was naturalised, I would have thought it'd be more likely to be the Polish spelling (given that both languages write the /v/ phoneme as 'w'). Standalone article for her grandfather?
[edit]Her gramps appears to have been a major Nazi collaborator
There's a tonne of info about him on the internet, especially in russian if ur willing to use google translate (not just the recent publications in the west coming after his granddaughter's nomination) goings years back e.g. https://pobeda-journal.ru/osvobozhdenie/glavnyj-politsaj-levoberezhnoj-ukrainy/
The section in her article is already becoming too large and unwieldy so im thinking creating a separate article is in order. What do u guys think? 2A03:3F40:2:203:0:BE:0:21 (talk) 16:55, 28 June 2025 (UTC)
- The early life and education section should be primarily about the subject of the article and not about her grandfather (or the women she rowed with). This is a short article and has now become far too weighted towards her grandfather, especially since the information about her grandfather is - inevitably, given what he did - very negative. - I concur. Grandfathers who were Nazis, war criminals, collaborators, etc. are not uncommon. I've split the article –those familiar with the primary sources can have at it! kencf0618 (talk) 19:42, 28 June 2025 (UTC)
- Making a separate article makes sense, for the most part.
- Then again, I would like to take the opportunity to name one interesting issue: according to one article I found out, her collaborationist "grandfather" may not even be her grandfather. According to AmalBerlin, a Ukrainian-language news site, her father Konstantin (not to be confused with the quisling) was "the son of Ukrainian Ostarbeiters from Slobozhanshchyna": namely, Mykola and Yevhenia Dobrovolskyy.
- In other words, either their source got her grandfather's identity wrong, or we got it wrong! We ought to investigate this further.

- The Ukrainian source has found another Konstantin Dubrowolski born in the same year. But the date of birth and parents' names are different to those of Blaise Metreweli's father. Southdevonian (talk) 08:15, 30 June 2025 (UTC)
