Former good article nomineeBini (group) was a Music good articles nominee, but did not meet the good article criteria at the time. There may be suggestions below for improving the article. Once these issues have been addressed, the article can be renominated. Editors may also seek a reassessment of the decision if they believe there was a mistake.

Suggestions for improving this article

The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

In light of the § Recommendation to withdraw the GA nomination, here are my suggestions and the issues I found throughout the article. Everyone is welcome to work on these; I'll also be gradually addressing them myself. If anyone spots other issues I haven't listed, feel free to drop them here. Alternative suggestions for the points I listed are also welcome.

I did not delve much into the grammar of the prose, as it would only make this list longer.

Note: This is a very exhaustive list. Please let me know if I should wrap it all in a collapsible template.

Lead

  1. The lead basically needs a rewrite to re-align with the present information throughout the entire article.

Name

  1. Maybe minimize the lengthy quotations here by integrating them into the text.
  2. We should also start normalizing the use {{Translation}} or {{Literal translation}} (whichever is appropriate) throughout the article for consistency and to let know the readers that the parenthesized word is a translation, as well as {{Lang}} per MOS:LANG.

History

2018–2020: Formation, pre-debut activities
  1. This entire subsection is built using primary sources (e.g., YouTube, ABS-CBN Entertainment). While this is unavoidable since Bini wasn't that popular back then, there may be newer sources that can support these, now that they're well-known.
  2. Some of the primary sources cited in this section are WP:PRSOURCE or press releases, particularly Ref#4, which is referenced three times in this section.
  3. The group trained from 2019 to 2020 under local coaches, who included Kitchy Molina, the professional vocal coach and former chair of the Department of Voice, Music Theater, and Dance at the University of the Philippines College of Music; Austrian-born dance coach Mickey Perz; and South Korean coaches from MU Doctor Academy.

I don't know why, but this paragraph cannot be supported by Ref#4, which is cited in it. Ref#8 is cited to only support the who included Kitchy Molina, the professional vocal coach and former chair of the Department of Voice, Music Theater, and Dance at the University of the Philippines College of Music statement. I remember that I was the one who added this, and I apologize. I wasn't knowledgeable back then, lol. Anyway, Ref#12 (dead but archived) can be a suitable alternative for this, though the paragraph will need some copyedit to align with Ref#12's contents.
  4. Ref#9, an X (Twitter) post, is cited to support In May 2020, Dyogi released on Twitter a performance practice video of the group singing and dancing to "Ngiti" (Smile) by Young JV and Gary Valenciano to show their progress in training. While WP:ABOUTSELF permits the use of self-published sources for statements about oneself like this, it's better to find another secondary source that can support this. Otherwise, we need to remove it since we're aiming for the GA standard.
  5. Ref#10, which is referenced for the In August 2020, the group participated in the Philippine K-pop Convention's Happy Hallyu Day 4 event, performing K-pop dance covers, including Red Velvet's "In & Out", Blackpink's "How You Like That" and Twice's "More & More". statement, no longer exists. The original website, Sagisag, no longer exists. Its domain, sagisag.com, now redirects to a Japanese sports page.
  6. If secondary ones cannot support the statements that rely solely on primary sources, then we need to minimize the use of these primary sources, or consider removing the statements altogether.
2021–2022: Debut with "Born to Win"
  1. Ref#19, cited to support the release date "Born to Win" and the On the same day as the release of "Born to Win", the group hosted the first segment of their debut launch, Bini: The Runway, which was broadcast via KTX. The event conceptually combined fashion and music, showcasing the group's first official public appearance, with bespoke creations by Filipino designer Francis Libiran. statement is a press release. Secondaries are needed for substitution for this primary.
  2. Ref#22, which is cited to support the following, is also a press release. Additionally, the level of detail on this may be WP:UNDUE:

The second segment of Bini's debut launch, The Showcase, was held on June 11, 2021, marking their official debut. They interacted with fans and treated them to a mini-concert experience, performing "Da Coconut Nut" and "Born to Win". The group additionally presented three performances: Gwen and Sheena performed KZ Tandingan's "Tagu-Taguan"; Colet, Jhoanna, and Maloi performed Janine Berdin's "Biyaya"; and Aiah, Stacey, and Mikha premiered "World War C", an original rap song about having strength amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The event also offered fans a glimpse into each member's journey and featured footage of their intense training at Star Hunt Academy.

  3. Ref#25, which is used to support In August, the group participated in the Philippine K-pop Convention's Happy Hallyu Day 5 event, performing dance covers of various K-pop songs in addition to "Born to Win". is a primary (YouTube video). I don't know if this relatively small information is still needed; if so, a secondary replacement is needed.
  4. Ref#28 is a WP:CITEMERGE of five references, just to support In February 2022, the group was featured on the cover of the Dubai-based magazine Xpedition as "The Burgeoning Grace", making Bini one of the first Filipino celebrities, alongside brother group BGYO, to have an NFT magazine cover launched through the Metaverse.. Honestly, this feels like a WP:CITEKILL. One or two is enough.
  5. Ref#29, used for the release of Feel Good is a press release. The album article has some independent sources that can be used as a replacement for this.
2023–2024: Domestic success, "Pantropiko" craze and Talaarawan
  1. Ref#42, used for the release of Talaarawan is a press release.
  2. In June, Bini entered the Top Artists Global chart on Spotify, reaching 193rd place. should be removed per WP:SINGLEVENDOR.
  3. Ref#50, while an ABS-CBN News article used for the release of Bini's website, is still primary. Plenty of secondaries are available online. This or this can be used as a replacement. Ref#53 can be also used.
  4. On June 14, Bini became the first Filipino artist or group to top Spotify's Daily Top Artists Philippines chart, surpassing Taylor Swift. A week later, they also topped the Weekly Top Artists chart on Spotify Philippines. While these are great milestones for Bini, I still think they should not be included per WP:SINGLENETWORK, unless they're considered as "special circumstances".
2024–present: Biniverse
  1. The In May, Bini member Sheena made her acting debut as herself in a biographical episode of drama anthology series Maalaala Mo Kaya, in which other Bini members were also cast as themselves. statement is entirely sourced from two ABS-CBN News articles. It would be better to replace these with secondaries if available, to further minimize the heavy reliance of this article on primary sources.

Artistry

Musical styles
  1. This section may need some copyedit for WP:NPOV. Some phrases like "distinct Filipino flavor", "luscious harmonies", and "witty and distinct tongue-and-cheek" may be considered as pufferies or sugar-coating.
Vocals
  1. Immediately, the starting sentence Bini has garnered widespread acclaim for their strong vocal abilities. is already bombarded with references. One or two should be enough.
  2. 63.73% (yeah, I computed it based on the number of words) of the first paragraph are quoted, which is pretty excessive. The same pattern goes for the remaining paragraphs of the section, which contain excessive quotes. We can minimize these by rewriting them all and integrating them into the text.

Other ventures

Endorsements
  1. Ref#143, used for the release of "Made for All", is a press release.
  2. While Ref#144, which is used for Modess, is a Philippine Star article, it leans to WP:SPONSORED, which must be treated as a self-published or primary source. This can be used as a better replacement.
  3. Ref#145, used for "Super Crush", is a primary (YouTube music video). This can be also used as a secondary replacement.
  4. Ref#146, used for In March 2024, Bini became one of the ambassadors of Samsung for their new Galaxy A series. is a press release from Samsung itself. This can be also used as a secondary replacement.
  5. Ref#149, used for Vitakeratin, is the YouTube music video for the promotional song, and honestly, I don't think it can support the On April 15, Bini revealed their endorsement of Unilever's hair care brand Vitakeratin synthesis.
  6. Ref#154, an ABS-CBN News article can be replaced with this from Rappler, to further minimize the use of primary sources in the article.
  7. Ref#161 is yet another YouTube music video, and like number five, I don't think it can support the synthesis of Bini becoming the ambassadors for Fudgee Barr.
  8. Ref#163, used for info about Bini becoming ambassadors for Nescafe, is a WP:SPONSORED article. This article from Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP), while only a brief mention, should be enough for verifiability.
  9. Ref#164, used for Bini becoming ambassadors for Penshoppe and the release of "Icon", is an X (Twitter) post from Penshoppe itself, which is both a primary and self-published source. This article from the Cosmopolitan Philippines should be enough as a secondary replacement.
  10. Ref#165, used for The group also released a pastiche of their song "Cherry on Top" called "Mango on Top", with their endorsement with Angel Milk Philippines, which promoted the food brand's all-purpose creamer., is a YouTube music video (another primary), which I think is not a solid source to support this synthesis.
  11. Ref#168, used for On February 28, 2025, the stationery brand Pentel Philippines announced Bini as the newest ambassadors of their pens, as well as their Sterling, Avanti, and Orions notebooks. is an Instagram post from the brand itself, which is also considered as a self-published source. I haven't found any reliable secondary sources to support this, and if other editors also can't find a suitable replacement, then we may have to remove the statement. After all, Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information, and this shouldn't be a significant loss.
  12. Ref#169, used for the info about Bini becoming the ambassador for Cornetto, is a Facebook video post from the band itself. Like number 11, it's also a self-published source, and I can't find any secondary alternatives. Removing it shouldn't also be a big loss.
  13. Ref#172, while published through ABS-CBN News, is a WP:SPONSORED article by Enervon. Since it's used in the On July 2, 2025, Bini featured one of their brand partners, Enervon, on the sixth episode of Biniversus. sentence, it's removal should not be also a big loss, since it's a relatively small detail from an episode of their show.
  14. Ref#178, which supports the statement: On November 16, 2019, as the youth ambassadors of National Youth Commission, the group took part in the 2019 FitFil Youth Against Drugs (and Obesity) campaign to promote healthy living among the youth. The event was held at the SM Mall of Asia by the Bay. — is a YouTube video from ABS-CBN Star Hunt. To be honest, while it is a primary source, I'm unsure whether it should be removed due to the lack of secondary sources. On one hand, it marks a significant early milestone for the group, becoming youth ambassadors for a national commission, which makes it feel worth keeping. On the other hand, it's puzzling that there's no coverage from news outlets, not even from ABS-CBN News, about this event.
Philanthropy
  1. Ref#180, which supports the following is an X (Twitter) post from Star Hunt Academy. To be honest, this also feels worth keeping, but at the same time, news coverage even from ABS-CBN News is absent:

On December 8, 2020, Bini along with the boy group BGYO held a joint auction charity event called #BinificiaryAucSHAn for the benefit of Typhoon Ulysses (Vamco) victims. The project ended up raising a total of ₱125,642 (2020) (US$2,531.87), from the groups' auctioned trainee shirts, as well as several other belongings, and from the fund raised via Kumu. All the proceeds were donated to the Cagayan and Isabela relief operations through ABS-CBN Foundation's Sagip Kapamilya.

  2. Ref#181, which is used for the statement: The ABS-CBN Christmas Special" pre-show entitled KTnX ang Babait Ninyo: ABS-CBN Christmas Special Fundraising Show, a benefit show for the survivors of Typhoons Rolly and Ulysses., is a press release.
  3. Ref#182, which is also used for the KTnX, is a primary source (it's a Behance post). There are also no secondary sources available to support this, so it would be a big loss if these were to be removed.
  4. Ref#183, used for Positive Vibes for the Positive+ benefit concert, is also an X (Twitter) post. The concert was held via Kumu, so it wasn't notable enough to get media attention, hence the absence of secondary alternatives.
Webcast
  1. Ref#189 is a press release from ABS-CBN. This article from Adobo Magazine should be enough as a secondary alternative.

Members

This section heavily relies on the two-part "Bini Chronicles" YouTube videos for their positions in the group. There should be plenty of available secondary alternatives, since the group is now well-known.

References

Most of the reference titles need formatting corrections per WP:ALLCAPS, as many are still in all uppercase and should be converted to standard title case. Additionally, some publication names are not wikilinked, even though articles for them exist.

There are also issues with citation structure: for example, newspaper names like Philippine Daily Inquirer are being placed under the publisher parameter in citation templates like {{Cite news}}, when they should be in the work parameter. According to the template documentation, the work parameter should contain the name of the newspaper, while the publisher parameter should include the company or organization that operates the newspaper.

Furthermore, some references are missing the names of the authors, and a few also have incomplete or truncated source names, which should be corrected for accuracy and consistency. AstrooKai (Talk) 18:51, 27 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

So far, I have finished Name#2 (hence the strikethrough) and made additional improvements that I have not listed here. Although I'm not sure if I should also apply #2 to proper nouns too (e.g., songs, albums, etc.). AstrooKai (Talk) 22:02, 27 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Scratch that. I just read Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Music#Names (non-English) and it stated that the names of works, and other terms, should be marked up with the {{lang}} template, using the appropriate two-letter language code.
Actually, I'm not sure if this guideline applies to modern music works (e.g., songs, albums, etc.). AstrooKai (Talk) 22:13, 27 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Eight of these have been addressed by @MelissaFukunaga and are now marked with strikethrough. Thanks for the assist! I'll handle the remaining ones, except for a few that I think should be discussed first. AstrooKai (Talk) 06:09, 28 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I want to add that some references are not archive, please include on your work. ROY is WAR Talk! 06:13, 28 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Those are simple and can be done once everything is fixed. For now, we need to resolve all issues within the article. @MelissaFukunaga and I have already addressed some of the above. I'll resume working on them later, after I've taken care of some personal matters and the SONA concludes. In the meantime, anyone is free and welcome to address them. AstrooKai (Talk) 07:01, 28 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'll be also continuing those addresses later on when I have free time. For now, anyone can address them whenever they can. MelissaFukunaga (talk) 08:24, 28 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I got rid of the excessive detail from NBS and the Enervon cameo on Biniversus. Borgenland (talk) 12:27, 28 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for helping further, @MelissaFukunaga! Can't track which of the above you have already resolved, so I'll just leave the rest to you guys. I'll focus on fixing the citation styles of all references. AstrooKai (Talk) 10:09, 29 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
AstrooKai, Bloomagiliw told me on my talk page that in the vocal section especially in culture impact and Fandom section that it is not necessarily to change quotation of the author said. However, I explained to them that it may against per WP:LONGQUOTE: Using too many quotations is incompatible with the encyclopedic writing style. They even explained to me that it is also used on Liza Soberano (FA Assessment) and Regine Velasquez (FA Assessment). I want to make a consensus here whether should revert all the own words that I converted from quotations.
Note: Mentioning Borgenland, AdobongPogi, MelissaFukunaga for consenus and their opinion. ROY is WAR Talk! 12:18, 9 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Could you show again the relevant diffs? I am currently making an extended Biography and wasn't able to follow through events here for a few days. Borgenland (talk) 12:21, 9 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
1310322961, 1310323720. This is the reverted quotations. ROY is WAR Talk! 12:50, 9 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
No strong opinions though I detest WP:QUOTEFARM as long as it doesn't trigger the copyvio filter. Borgenland (talk) 14:07, 9 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Bloomagiliw, you can now back the quotations. ROY is WAR Talk! 14:51, 9 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Why did you remove all mentions of Bini incorporating classical music in "Oxygen", which is supported by the SunStar Cebu article? Also, why did you put back the LGBT thing in "Musical style" when it is more appropriate for "Cultural impact"? Bloomagiliw (talk) 15:01, 9 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I think there's an edit conflict, I did not notice on that. I apologized, I should put the {{in use}}, ROY is WAR Talk! 15:06, 9 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Alright, I'm restoring them. Bloomagiliw (talk) 15:08, 9 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Just clarifying as well that I've trimmed the genres in the infobox to ones that have been mentioned in articles to describe at least more than one song (e.g. keeping funk as both "Salamin, Salamin" and "Zero Pressure" have been described as funk songs, but not glam rock as it was only described as an influence for HMTU). Bloomagiliw (talk) 15:14, 9 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
The Philanthropy section of Ref 180, I will not remove that because I think it is worth keeping and important on the article. Also, the references some of them have not an author and they been credited as publishers. On Endorsements: , which supports the statement: On November 16, 2019, as the youth ambassadors of National Youth Commission, the group took part in the 2019 FitFil Youth Against Drugs (and Obesity) campaign to promote healthy living among the youth. The event was held at the SM Mall of Asia by the Bay. should not remove this and apply the WP:ABOUTSELF as well as Ref 180. I will try to finish this today. ROY is WAR Talk! 14:59, 9 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hello, check the "Voice and timbre" sections of Mariah Carey's and Regine Velasquez's pages for reference (both FA-class). I am aware of the WP:LONGQUOTE policy. However, this does not mean that all/most quotations need to be changed into "own words" prose. Sections that require the statements and opinions of journalists, critics, and public figures (such as "Artistry" and relevant sub-sections, as well as "Media/public image") can and should involve many quotes, as these are not necessarily factual, objective, or provably/indisputably true and thus must be attributed to the authors or speakers. As it is right now, the "Vocals" section of Bini's page does not go against the "long quote" policy. Quoting ≠ excessive quoting.
Edit: I would also like to add that pretty much every article about public figures that has been granted GA status or higher involves multiple quotes, including full sentences, in sections like these. Check Girls' Generation's "Artistry" secton and Katseye's "Public image" section as well for reference.Bloomagiliw (talk) 12:28, 9 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I considered the short quotations since it wasn't big deal to me and it's okay to revert the short quotes, my concern is the long quotes which need to convert into own words. If this okay to them, I guess you can revert some quotations. ROY is WAR Talk! 12:56, 9 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I understand this, but the ones we're discussing are not examples of long quotes. You've been rewriting short quotes too, and I get your intention, but I was explaining why they are okay to keep. For instance, "Aaron Tolentino of KRON 4, an American news site, commended the 'power' in Bini's singing at their San Francisco stop." was already heavily paraphrased, so there was no need for you to change "power" (the only exact quote in the sentence, a single word) into "energy" (which completely changes the meaning). Bloomagiliw (talk) 13:01, 9 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
Alright. Just wait for AstrooKai and Borgenland for their opinion. I am working to finish this especially on the references which need to align the Cite web → correct citation (e.g: Cite news, Cite magazine). ROY is WAR Talk! 13:10, 9 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
I don't actually have problems with quotations themselves. My only concern was it being excessive in the concerned section.
I haven't caught up that much on this for some weeks now since I'm occupied with college activities. But if the quotations have been at least minimized, then that's good. AstrooKai (Talk) 13:37, 9 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
AstrooKai,Borgenland, MelissaFukunaga I am thinking to creating a FAQ banner for the article. Since AstrooKai plan to fix the article to passed the GA quality such as brand endorsements we should explain this editorial decision to help readers (especially Bini fans, and non bini fans) understand why some milestones are missing from the article. This could reduce confusion and prevent repeated questioning or re-adding of removed content.
Additionally, I'm considering including on FAQ banner about the Bini Gwen deletion, as the article was repeatedly vandalized on June 25 by an IP Address. While we can't speculate per WP:CRYSTALBALL but it obviously from Bini fan and it's worth addressing the issue.
Let me know if others agree with adding a FAQ to clarify my proposal or you have suggestions to add it.
Note: Also mentioning AdobongPogi and Bloomagiliw who also major participation to Bini article and since Bloomagiliw might take over to fix Bini Gwen's article. ROY is WAR Talk! 12:01, 29 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I am open both ways on this but I will definitely recommend posting a reminder on WP:FANCRUFT as part of your proposal. Borgenland (talk) 12:06, 29 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Addendum, to avoid overly enthusiastic editors performing WP:INDISCRIMINATE here, I also recommend putting up some mention of the sister pages in the Bini template to divert some of the weight. Borgenland (talk) 13:07, 29 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'm okay with it, in fact, I already have some proposal Q/As for it. AstrooKai (Talk) 12:14, 29 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'm also open for this issue and would suggest adding a reference to WP:UNDUE in the proposal/FAQ to clarify how to handle balance and avoid giving too much weight to less signficant coverage. AdobongPogi masarap 🍛 12:34, 29 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Just want to let you all know that I have removed On April 15, Bini revealed their endorsement of Unilever's hair care brand Vitakeratin by releasing the promotional song "Gandang Vitakeratin" (lit. 'Vitakeratin Beauty') in #Endorsements. There aren't sufficient sources to verify the release date or that the song marked their official endorsement reveal. The only available references I found are:
The first two are from ABS-CBN News, which are not only WP:PRIMARY, but also WP:SPONSORED, and therefore discouraged from being used for sourcing. The third, from Billboard Philippines, confirms the song's existence but does not support the claimed release date or endorsement reveal. AstrooKai (Talk) 12:43, 29 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I would also like to propose removing mention of brands with no wikilink per WP:INDISCRIMINATE or at least for brevity reasons. In light of that I slightly disagree on scrubbing Unilever entirely. Borgenland (talk) 12:52, 29 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'm actually planning to re-add it later, since this source, which is already cited in the article, can support the VitaKeratin endorsement. I just don't know where to add it back since the Endorsement section is a complete mess, and I honestly don't know where to start. AstrooKai (Talk) 14:10, 29 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I’d suggest either a chronological order or separate by industry. I don’t why but I find it incredulous reading about them endorsing a Yumburger then a detergent next to the snacks shelf. Borgenland (talk) 14:17, 29 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
Is it better if we turn the Endorsement section into a table, similar to SB19#Endorsements? AstrooKai (Talk) 14:31, 29 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I'm leaning so, although the notes section there looks like an eyesore for editors who are not fond of redundant prose. Borgenland (talk) 15:00, 29 July 2025 (UTC)Reply
I agree to make endorsement section as table. Much organized than to long written. ROY is WAR Talk! 03:30, 1 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

You're right, my wording came off harsher than I intended. I just meant that editing someone else's signed comment can cause confusion, especially since it appeared as though the entire message was signed by you. It's usually clearer to simply reply at the bottom of the thread instead. AstrooKai (Talk) 13:24, 8 September 2025 (UTC)Reply
AstrooKai, I made the mistake of not realizing that this was your thread, thinking it was a shared thread for discussing suggestions on how to improve the article. Revirvlkodlaku (talk) 13:37, 8 September 2025 (UTC)Reply

AstrooKai, Borgenland, Bloomagiliw, The list is now complete. In the Endorsement section, Bini became ambassador of the National Youth Commission on November 19, which cited to a YouTube video from ABS-CBN Star Hunt. In the Philanthropy section, the part of Bini and BGYO auctioning their trainee shirts and donating to Sagip Kapamilya is only cited from a post on X by Star Hunt Academy. The primary source (ABS-CBN) didn't cover it (I don't know why other articles such as Rappler cover that, I see them article which is Ben&Ben and SB19 mentioned on their article. Maybe because Bini and BGYO are not popular that time so I consider that). And I think we should apply the WP:ABOUTSELF. Let me know if we should re-nominate this for GA, and I will add y'all as co nominators. You can still expand the article if you want. Thanks for your cooperation and good work everyone! I'm interested in reviewing this, although first impressions suggest issues with writing from a fan perspective. AstrooKai, I notice you suggested withdrawing the article when it was last put up for GA and have since made some actioned suggestions. How are you feeling now?

Some brief examples of fan perspective that stick out:

  • "they have gained widespread recognition" is vague puffery when it is not describing something "recognition for..."
  • "They are the first artist to receive the Billboard Philippines Women in Music "Rising Star" Award." being the first artist to receive a new award is not significant unless it later turns out to be a major award.
  • I see "Bini have garnered widespread acclaim for their strong vocal abilities." and look at the first source supporting it. It's a lightweight recounting of an interview of the group's Performance Director has done with another magazine. Their vocals are not praised in the article.
  • I also see is used to support several credulous quotes in the first sentence of history but I don't see it in the article. Is this in an embedded video?

Another issue that jumps out is I do not feel I am gaining insight into the band: the entirety of the discussion of their second album is: "On September 29, Bini released their second studio album, Feel Good, which consisted of five original songs and two bonus tracks.[20] It included the single "Strings", whose serious tone marked a departure from the group's usual bubblegum pop style." Is this song representative of the album's tonal shift? Anything on the album's production? How was it received? Same goes for all the albums, but a seemingly indiscriminate list of performances, and announcements of performances is given substantial detail. Hi, Rollinginhisgrave! Thanks for reviewing this article. I will mention Bloomagiliw, ArinAstrid since they are also have significant edits here. We'll help to address all the issues. ROY is WAR Talk! 22:09, 27 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Hello, the "Bini have garnered widespread acclaim for their strong vocal abilities" sentence is a summary of the entire section, like you would find in the "Critical reception" section of a film. Descriptions of an artist's vocal styles and abilities are also found on FA and GA articles like Mariah Carey and Regine Velasquez. It's simply a summary of all the sources together, not just that one. :) But if you could, please list all of the phrases and sentences you feel would benefit from a rewrite or removal, and include your suggestions too. Thanks. Edit: Tried to address a few of your concerns by rephrasing the first paragraph of the "Vocals" section and adding more details about the Feel Good album. :) Bloomagiliw (talk) 22:21, 27 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Bloomagiliw for this reply :) your edit to the point on vocals is an improvement, although I have a few comments, the first being that the summaries of sections to describe something as acclaimed fall under MOS:FILMCRITICS, which says "do not synthesize individual reviews". If you have been editing with a different understanding, you should go back and revise.
The second concerns treatment of vocals in other articles. I'm not a big fan of these articles, but if we compare the description of Mariah Carey's vocals, the first sentence is representative: "Carey possesses a five-octave vocal range." This is an objective description. Compare with the description of Bini's vocals, which frames the discussion around how much praise they have received, and puts in wikivoice the subjective characterisation of the vocals being "strong." This fails the guidance in WP:WIKIVOICE to "avoid stating opinions as facts."
I see the same impulse elsewhere in the article, to describe Bini's actions and characteristics in terms of how they were (positively) received. If I can leave you with some advice: try to base the article on descriptions in the most reputable, preferably retrospective literature. Build on this with analysis from dispassionate sources (ones that don't read like they are written by a fan / advocate). Finally, describe whether people liked it, based off reputable sources (critical commentary, review aggregators, not a Chinese singer judging a game show). Avoid inadvertently putting things in wikivoice, for instance, even though "Similarly, Earl Taruc of Zeen noted how Bini maintain vocal excellence..." appears to be attributing opinions, all that is being attributed is that Taruc commented on it, and the idea that Bini "maintain vocal excellence" (clearly a subjective opinion) is put in wikivoice. Looking over before I decide to review in full:

  • "The group's name is taken from the Tagalog word binibini, meaning "young lady", chosen to symbolize their aim of portraying the modern Filipina—confident, independent, and versatile."
    • Immediately, putting in wikivoice that the modern Filipina is "versatile" and "confident" is inappropriate.
    • Apart from that, it is unclear in the source what versatile is directly supported by in the source: sweet, fierce and informed?
    • "The group's name is taken from the Tagalog word binibini, meaning "young lady"" not in source
  • "As part of his belief that "Filipino talent has a place on the global stage", Laurenti Dyogi, ABS-CBN's head of entertainment production, had the idea of forming a training camp where youth aspiring to become superstars "can develop or further hone their talents"." As I note above, putting in wikivoice claims such as Dyogi has a belief that "Filipino talent has a place on the global stage" (promotional) is inappropriate, as are the rest of the quotes in the sentence, and they are not from what I can see (control F) in the source provided.
  • In the next sentence I still see unsupported text. "between the ages of 16 and 19 years", "with recommendations from talent scouts"

Jumping ahead

  • "On August 8, Bini released a music video for "Shagidi"." The exact date of a music video release with no elaboration is overdetail, and resembles WP:PROSELINE.
  • "Later that month, they filed a legal complaint against..." this section reads like the writer did not understand the content and was merely reproducing the content rather than summarizing it in their own words.
    • "through their lawyer and Daily Tribune columnist Joji Alonso" I was confused why a columnist was also filing the complaint; reading the source I see it is an extended description of the lawyer.
    • I don't think most of the legal terminology is needed or helpful to the reader - at most I would say they accused the uploaders of the cybercrime of unjust vexation, and then gloss briefly what that means.
  • What is a photo journal?
  • "They were recognized as notable alumni of Spotify Radar" Recognised by who? Musicbusinessworldwide.com?
  • Looking up, an extended discussion of a public controversy jumps out to me as containing immediately apparent issues. "reacting" is extremely vague, and we should never be describing sexual jokes as "appropriate" or "inappropriate" in wikivoice. The following sentences, full of PR speak have the same issue: "the band acknowledged that they had "made a mistake"". Saying the band "acknowledged" implies the criticism was correct. It is not Wikipedia's job to make morality judgements. The reproduction in full of PR statements is undue.

I can tell a lot of work has been put into this article, and I can see the enthusiasm by the writers. Thankyou for collating this. Still, I think more work than is appropriate for a good article review will be required to get this up to the good article criteria due to issues, particularly concerning neutrality, detail, and verifiability. Comments

[edit]

I mentioned to Royiswariii last month that I intended to leave some comments on this page's neutrality and other aspects outside of a GA. This slipped my mind, but I'll get to these over the next few days. Rollinginhisgrave (talk | edits) 00:48, 12 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

A few comments:

  • Lead sentence too POV — puts most emphasis on how important and acclaimed the band is rather than what it is.
  • Lead too long and granular, everything framed through (positive) perception while not explaining what they write music about etc.
  • "with the members representing the modern Filipina—charming, fierce, independent, and informed" look at my last review to see what is wrong here.
  • "proposed establishing a training camp" when?
  • The prose is choppy enough in Bini (group)#2018–2020: Formation, pre-debut activities that I would consider it a problem for the GA being well written. Try to improve flow.
  • "production group Vo3e collaborated to transform Ryan Cayabyab's novelty song "Da Coconut Nut" into an electropop remake" This type of language reads as going from an encyclopedic style to an advertorial one.
  • "where it was well received by the audience" the source doesn't say anything about the audience, and it picks comments online in a lightweight manner. This isn't really enough to be DUE or reliable for such a claim.
  • I think I mentioned it in the previous review, but this article needs to move from contemporary news to retrospective reporting. The granularity of detail is intense. "On New Year's Eve, Bini performed at Ayala Land's New Year countdown event, Radiating on Top, held at Ayala Avenue in Makati". Did this have any lasting significance? How about "Bini, along with fellow P-pop girl group G22, appeared on the Chinese reality show Show It All, hosted by Lay Zhang, performing "Karera", "I Feel Good", and "Pantropiko" in episodes that aired on April 25 and May 2." Do we need to know about this at all? If we do, do we need to know they performed with G22? That it was hosted by Lay Zhang? Which songs exactly they performed? The exact dates? "On December 24, a Bini-oriented article by writer Julienne Loreto was listed as one of the most-read on the American magazine Positively Filipino for 2025" This is blatant WP:FANCRUFT.
  • I'm not going to continue to pick through. This article needs to be built from neutral, journalistic overviews. Have these been written? What piece most closely resembles this?

Rollinginhisgrave, is this can be add on the article? Although, &Asianis reliable and cited here, I just want to know if it's approve to you. ROY is WAR Talk! 12:54, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Roy, congrats on your and other editor mention in that e-magazine! The answer, as I suspect you know, is unfortunately a strong no. This is a very marginal factoid, and the article is in large part based on expanding on a tweet. Unless we can establish that Bini's Wikipedia pageviews for 2025 among other P-Pop acts (the rabbithole we are in) has some ongoing significance (a more reputable outlet, that reports critically on its subjects mentions it retrospectively / it is discussed in an overview piece of Bini etc), its inclusion would be undue.
I asked a question at the end of the above, not intended to be rhetorical. Do you have an answer? Rollinginhisgrave (talk | edits) 13:16, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Thank you! Then, I think it's belong to {{Press}}. But, I think they're just showing their credits by embedding the tweets and might not a controversial, IMO. But, I'll add as Press on this talk page just in case.
Re:I asked a question at the end of the above, not intended to be rhetorical. Do you have an answer?
  • On our previous discussion, we're just focused only on secondary and independent sources, and of course reliable. I do check if there's a editorial and I personally ask them through their email and of course I don't said that i'll cite on specific article. IMO, I'm just based if there's editorial team or supervised by their local press (e.g: Independent Press Standards Organisation, Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (transl. Broadcasters' Guild of the Philippines) and I think that's what they write on the article and I don't blame them. I don't think this is SPS too.

I will leave also the other articles who also mentioned some wiki article:Rep. Zaldy Co's Wikipedia details tampered with (cited in Zaldy Co), Filipino Boy Band SB19 Is Becoming a Mainstay on the Social 50 Chart "The group earned 1.2 million Twitter mentions, 193,000 Twitter reactions and 7,000 new followers on their @SB19Official account while also scoring 10,000 new Facebook page likes, 3,000 Wikipedia views." ROY is WAR Talk! 13:59, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
I am more asking if there have been overviews written on Bini as a group. The ideal here is something directly addressing the subject. For example, for the history of chocolate, that would be something like The True History of Chocolate. Something more likely to exist in a reputable publication that would provide a form of overview for Bini is a profile feature article. Click here to read about what that entails. Do any of these exist? Rollinginhisgrave (talk | edits) 14:01, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
The closest are from Cosmopolitan Philippines (but this is until the Biniverse tour or Salamin, Salamin (transl. Mirror, Mirror) era), and Philippine Entertainment Portal. ROY is WAR Talk! 14:09, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Neither are what we are looking for. If this group has not attracted the attention of any actual journalism — dispassionate, rigorous — we need to a) write conservatively with what we have, b) stick to the bare bones, and c) emphasise what genuine critical attention they have received. This means:
a) we should only be including "positive"/milestone/acclaim facts if we can establish their significance, such as the MTV award.
b) the article should be much shorter. Rather than saying "Bini, along with fellow P-pop girl group G22, appeared on the Chinese reality show Show It All, hosted by Lay Zhang, performing "Karera", "I Feel Good", and "Pantropiko" in episodes that aired on April 25 and May 2.", we might group together multiple similar sources/statements and say "throughout 2024, Bini performed their singles on several television programs, including program 1, program 2..."
c) The genuine critical attention they have received is in their music. Greater discussion should be allotted to their music releases and the genuine critical remarks they received, not offhand comments in a Teen Vogue article like "they're awesome" or equivalent.
How does this sound to you? Rollinginhisgrave (talk | edits) 14:27, 28 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Is this song representative of the album's tonal shift? Anything on the album's production? How was it received? Same goes for all the albums, but a seemingly indiscriminate list of performances, and announcements of performances is given substantial detail. (From October 2025.)
c) The genuine critical attention they have received is in their music. Greater discussion should be allotted to their music releases and the genuine critical remarks they received, not offhand comments in a Teen Vogue article like "they're awesome" or equivalent. I won't mind, but in the event of this breaking PEIS this may be the first to go. Borgenland (talk) 15:19, 18 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
If you think it's worth it, then do it, but, to me, it's still redundant and unnecessary. It's worth it in their awards and nominations. Also, I encourage you to create a account and join us if you want. Like what I said earlier, if you see in GA and FA and you feel that it also applied in this article or any future GA or FA, it doesn't mean it will apply. There is a variant that they are not following the format in other GA and FA. It's not necessarily to copy or add it as a inspiration on future GA and FA. It's my two cents. ROY is WAR Talk! 15:20, 18 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
I also agree to Borgenland, there's also a limit here. I also want to add that it also may be violated in INDISCRIMINATE. But, to this your edit? I am not really so convince here but you have a free will here. ROY is WAR Talk! 15:32, 18 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hello. I am going to GA review this article. It's very long, but I'll try. I got curious about this group after Coachella. :) I'll leave some preliminary comments in a bit, to make the workload easier.

Lead section

[edit]

I found numerous issues here.

  • formerly Star Hunt Academy Girls or SHA Girls This is not mentioned at all in the "History" section and it's unsourced.
  • Since their inception, they have been referred to as "Nation's Girl Group" due to their impact on the public and Philippine pop music. I see that several of the sources used in the body do call them that, but the Lead section should be a summary of the body. There is no discussion of this moniker in the actual "History" or "Cultural impact" sections. This nickname should be discussed there as well.
  • which was promoted with its title track and "Kapit Lang" (transl. Just Hold On), as its two singles. This sentence is awkwardly written. Maybe rephrase to something like "which contained a title track of the same name and the promotional single "Kapit Lang" (transl. Just Hold On)"?
  • Their second studio album, Feel Good (2022), was certified gold by PARI in August 2024. Unsourced, not in body
  • The body mentions multiple times that BINI members Mikha and Gwen said that "Lagi" was a turning point for them musically, yet it is not mentioned in the Lead section at all?
  • In 2023, Bini issued the singles "Karera" and "Pantropiko", the latter of which went viral on TikTok through the "Pantropiko Dance Challenge" and was regarded as a summer anthem in the Philippines. Remove the "summer anthem" bit because it doesn't really add anything. Replace it with a fact about how "Pantropiko" was commercially their biggest success.
  • The group also became the first Filipino act to top the Spotify Philippines' Daily Top Artists chart on June 14, surpassing Taylor Swift. In July, Bini became the first Filipino pop act to perform at the KCON music festival, showcasing their single "Cherry on Top" during the pre-show, at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Undue weight, remove.
  • More emphasis should be placed on their major song and album/EP releases, as well as those releases' critical reception and legacy, not random achievements and gigs. For example, their Biniverse, Flames and Signals albums are completely missing from this lead section, even though they are major record releases. They should be mentioned.

History

[edit]

2018–2020: Formation, pre-debut activities

  • the last two having been housemates on Pinoy Big Brother: Otso (2018–2019).[5] Remove. Better suited to Sheena and Gwen's solo pages, not so relevant to Bini.

2021–2022: Debut, growing recognition

  • The same month, their music label, Star Music, announced the group's premiere with the single "Born to Win",[10][11] Any sources describing the genre and lyrical content of Born to Win? Please add a brief description based on those.
  • On September 30, at the Miss Universe Philippines 2021 pageant, they performed a modified version of "Born to Win"... Mega does not say they performed a "modified version." Remove, just say they performed "Born to Win."
  • In February 2022, the group was featured on the cover of the Dubai-based magazine Xpedition as "The Burgeoning Grace", making them one of the first Filipino celebrities, alongside their fellow SHA alumni, BGYO, to have an NFT magazine cover launched through the Metaverse. Remove, it's irrelevant/fancruft especially because Xpedition is not a notable magazine. "One of the first Filipino celebrities to have an NFT cover through Metaverse" is an extremely weak "achievement" that has been greatly eclipsed by their newer ones.
  • In two separate interviews from 2023 and 2024, Bini members Mikha and Gwen identified the success of "Lagi" as Bini's breakthrough moment. Only one interview is used as a source here, add the second one if you can find it.
  • "Lagi" would also later peak at number five on Billboard Philippines' Top Philippine Songs chart two years after its initial release in 2022. Remove, as it is mentioned in the "2023–2024" section anyway.
  • On December 4, 2020, Bini signed a contract with Star Magic and Star Music.[9] Merge with the paragraph above.

2023–2024: Domestic success, "Pantropiko" craze, and Talaarawan

  • Not sure if "craze" is an encyclopaedic choice of word. Maybe change to something like "Pantropiko" virality
  • One of its singles, "Salamin, Salamin", became one of two songs by the group, alongside "Pantropiko", to top Billboard's Philippines Songs chart.[53] By late March, Bini had over two million monthly listeners on Spotify, making them the highest-streamed female OPM artist and the most-streamed P-pop group on the platform.[54][55] This doesn't tell me what the song sounds like. You should be writing not just for fans, but also assume that there will be people reading who don't know what their songs sound like. Please add a brief musical description for each song, i.e. I saw on the "Salamin" main page that Billboard Philippines called it bubblegum and funk: https://billboardphilippines.com/editorial-picks/best-of/24-standout-songs-of-2024-so-far-staff-picks-bini-sb19-unis-felip-ena-mori/
  • Add some critical reception for "Salamin, Salamin" as well.
  • Its trend led to the "Pantropiko Dance Challenge", in which millions of users participated. Awkward phrasing, please revise.
  • One of its singles, "Salamin, Salamin" --> Suggestion: Its lead single, "Salamin, Salamin"
  • Bini, along with fellow P-pop girl group G22, appeared on the Chinese reality show Show It All, hosted by Lay Zhang, performing "Karera", "I Feel Good", and "Pantropiko" in episodes that aired on April 25 and May 2. Merge this with the sentences about "Salamin" and "Pantropiko" streams above to create a single paragraph.

2024–2025: Biniverse, new releases

  • Bini Chapter 3: Hanggang Dulo Add an English translation in parentheses for "Hanggang Dulo."
  • with "flirtatious" lyrics.[71] The way it's placed here looks awkward. Also wondering if there's a better source for the lyrical content. Please add if so.
  • On the other hand, Teen Vogue included "Cherry on Top" in their "Best Songs of July 2024" list, with writers Sara Delgado and Kaitlyn McNab deeming it a "summer banger". Is there a better positive review to include here? This one seems so non-descriptive and I've seen the phrase "summer banger" pop up in obvious press releases for the song.
  • The track topped the Top Songs chart on iTunes Philippines I checked the "Cherry on Top" page. It says the song charted on Billboard Philippines. Replace iTunes with Billboard chart positions.
  • A few days later, the group released a video for their song "Zero Pressure", which had come out at the end of February. The song came out in February but only got a music video in May? Or was it just part of the EP that came out in Feb.? Please clarify.

Cultural impact

[edit]

Other ventures

[edit]

This entire section is incredibly bloated. To the nominator and regular editors, I hope you can find the time to trim this segment ASAP. It's way too detailed.

Athletics, Coke Studio Philippines & Cosmetics I recommend removing all of these sections entirely because they are fancruft/undue weight. Furthermore:

  • Nearly each source in the "Athletics" section is by ABS-CBN News. This group is under ABS-CBN Star Music. Not independent sources. The only non-ABS source quotes the local government's fluff piece about BINI Run. This is not important enough to a whole paragraph in an encyclopaedic article. Done.
    • Although the sources are better now, I'm still asking you guys to remove the attendance numbers and merge the "Athletics" section to the rest of their Other ventures. The reason is that these numbers are perhaps impressive to Filipino readers, who knows, but to foreign readers (especially those of us in the West) they're not notable. And little fan events like these don't have much weight on their careers. Just mention that they did these BINI Runs in a sentence or two, without mentioning how many people attended.
  • Most of the Coke Studio sources are blatant press releases, with highly promotional language and no credited authors. The SunStar piece isn't a press release I think, but it's already used in "Artistry" - no need to dedicate a whole segment to Coke Studio. - partially done, "Coke Studio" header has been removed but uncredited press releases about their various Coke Studio endeavours are still present
  • BINI Cosmetics is already mentioned in the "History" section.

Endorsements & Philanthropy

  • Remove all of the pieces without a credited author and/or were published by ABS-CBN News. The really significant brand deals like the Nike one have real, independent coverage. Especially remove the YouTube source in line one of "Philanthropy." --Handsome Ellis (talk) 08:52, 28 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
