Ukrainian Victory?

[edit]

Russian forces have been pushed far from Brovary, Ukraine has won this battle. If Russia ever comes back, it would constitute the Second Battle — Preceding unsigned comment added by Wolf359Locutus (talk • contribs) 17:52, 1 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

True, according to the map they were pushed away before the withdrawal (could be wrong). Dawsongfg (talk) 01:01, 16 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Requested merge with Kyiv offensive (2022)

To not merge, given the notable nature of the conflict around Brovary. Klbrain (talk) 12:03, 1 September 2022 (UTC)Reply

The article doesn't exactly describe a battle for Brovary, but skirmishes and ambushes in surrounding villages. I would like to propose a merger with Kyiv offensive. KajMetz (talk) 19:01, 3 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

  • Support per nom. It was an overextended column that pushed too far too soon. We must not let sentimentality obscure the fa t that this was a minor engagement t, albeit that it had the potential to become something mire significant at one point. • Oppose: This was clearly a distinct battle (over control of Brovary and surroundings) within the larger offensive. The main ambush in the area alone warrants an article. Overall, there is zero reason to try to cram the content of this article into the offensive article (which will be large enough once it is actually written in a completed form). Applodion (talk) 21:23, 3 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • As of now, the Kyiv offensive (2022) article is horribly small and barely covers the events in question. It can easily grow two times in size, and probably far more if a bit of work is put into it. Applodion (talk) 12:13, 4 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
  • Oppose There are actually two offensives toward Kyiv, by the Russian Eastern Military District from Belarus, and by the Central Military District towards Chernihiv and Kyiv. I think the main articles may have to be reorganized a bit. —Michael Z. 13:42, 4 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
Sorry for the necropost, but can somebody add the result? Dawsongfg (talk) 23:55, 29 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Images

[edit]

Images added by Skoropadsky were removed per MOS:IMAGEREL but readded by them here. If the images are not from Brovary (especially for a lead image), they are not relevant and should not be used. Cinderella157 (talk) 03:25, 31 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

There was no battle in Brovary itself. The images were taken in the nearby village where the main fighting took place. It is impossible to create an article for every skirmish in every village, so your explanation is absurd. According to this logic, there should be no illustrations of, let's say, Battle of Waterloo on Wikipedia, because no fighting took place in the village of Waterloo itself. Skoropadsky (talk) 13:05, 31 May 2025 (UTC)Reply
I have previously considered changing the reference to Brovary in the article title so that it references the village of Skybyn instead. Something to the effect of "Skybyn ambush" or "Skybyn strike". The difference with Waterloo is that "battle of Brovary" is not a well established name for this event and is in all likelihood simply a name that was coined by our fellow editors back in 2022 and is not used in sources. My view, which I think is shared by @Cinderella157, is that such names have no inherent legitimacy and should be replaced whenever possible. SaintPaulOfTarsus (talk) 01:05, 1 June 2025 (UTC)Reply
Yes SaintPaulOfTarsus. The lead would state: a military engagement took place at Brovary but apparently, it didn't. Whether it is part of the Northern front of the Russian invasion of Ukraine or the Battle of Kyiv (2022), neither article mentions Brovary or Skybyn. The actual ambush can be summarised as: On 9 March 2022, an advancing column of the 90th Guards Tank Division was ambushed. The column withdrew with several tanks and armored personnel carriers having been disabled. Looking at the video in this cited source, it indicates a large part of the column withdrawing. In a second source a Ukrainian soldier estimates the column at about 40 vehicles. The NYT article looks informative but I can't view it. The post battle picture I can see doesn't suggest too many vehicles disabled. I think that, given the timing, this was more a good news event than anything particularly notable given the scale of events. It might be worth revisiting whether we should retain the article.
