The result of the move request was: moved. Pageviews indicate a clear primary topic, even factoring in the dunes. (closed by non-admin page mover) Skarmory (talk • contribs) 08:17, 16 September 2026 (UTC)
– The Western Australian (WA) suburb is by far the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC over the Scottish house/medieval village it was named after, which has no current population.
Bassendean, Western Australia has had 106,538 total page views over its lifetime whereas Bassendean, Scottish Borders has only had 6,623 page views over its lifetime. This is consistent across time too.
A Google Trends search between the topic called "Bassendean (Suburb in Western Australia)" and "Bassendean, Scottish Borders" for 2004 to present worldwide shows the same picture. Even in the UK, the WA suburb is by far searched much more on Google.
I've also tried a WikiNav search but for some reason, it keeps giving me an error for all Bassendean-named pages but not for another random page I tried.
The Town of Bassendean council local government area and Electoral district of Bassendean are obviously named after the suburb. Fork99 (talk) 09:13, 25 August 2026 (UTC) — Relisting. - There is also one in WA but it only has a population of 5. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:47, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Crouch, Swale: Did you mean New South Wales (NSW)? But otherwise, yeah. Bassendean, New South Wales currently doesn't exist, although all Australian gazetted localities which have ever had a population are presumed to be notable per WP:NPLACE. Also the reason I avoided using "WA" in my nom is to avoid confusion with Washington (state). Fork99 (talk) 23:32, 1 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Fork99: yes I did sorry. Crouch, Swale (talk) 10:26, 2 September 2026 (UTC)

- oppose there should also Bassendean dunes in dab page which forms part of the geography of Perth, not sure of the extact flow the naming went as the Suburb started as West Guildford. I also much prefer maintaining the "location, dab" format for suburbs/towns much easier with consistent formats to find the right link. Keeping the location only for extreme notability, at best Bassendean has minor notariety due to its connection to one deceased painter that could sing a bit, had an extra leg, and a troublesome kangaroo. - WP:NCAUST does not make Placename, State/Territory mandatory, unlike WP:USPLACE. Bassendean dunes is a redirect to Swan Coastal Plain, which was only created in 2022, so it's hard to judge primary topic based on page views, but it's only had 89 so far. But it's also a subtopic of that article and in my opinion a WP:PARTIAL match. Fork99 (talk) 23:49, 6 September 2026 (UTC)
- It was when the articles were created all of Australia was placename, state. What I'm saying is that Bassendean lacks the significant notability to sit on the name rather than the disambiguation. The numbers are so small that over time they may add up, but that doesnt necessarily confer practical name recognition to warrant the change. Gnangarra 11:10, 7 September 2026 (UTC)
- When you say "notability", are you talking about WP:Notability, WP:Primary topic or something else entirely? Fork99 (talk) 11:30, 7 September 2026 (UTC)

- Support – The Bassendean dunes seem highly unlikely to have any impact here, and the page views clearly show that the suburb is usually what people will be looking for. –Maltazarian ᚾparleyinvestigateᛅ 03:09, 16 September 2026 (UTC)
- Support Per above. Clearly the WP:PRIMARYTOPIC. RVJ (talk) 06:58, 16 September 2026 (UTC)
