COI edit request: update BandLab infobox, features, history, file formats, and notable people

[edit]

Conflict-of-interest and paid-contribution disclosure: I am an employee of BandLab Technologies, the company that owns and develops BandLab. I am making this request in connection with my employment and on behalf of BandLab Technologies. I have a financial/professional conflict of interest and am therefore requesting review by independent volunteer editors rather than editing the article directly. I have also disclosed my paid affiliation on my Wikipedia user page.

Hello. I would appreciate an independent editor's review of the following proposed factual updates to BandLab. The current article includes outdated registered-user figures, incorrectly lists desktop operating systems as native clients (rather than web-browser access), contains outdated file import/export specifications, and attributes funding to the BandLab DAW rather than its parent company. The proposed wording is intended to be neutral and keeps the article's existing heading structure. I am comfortable with partial implementation, different neutral wording, or removal of details that editors consider insufficiently sourced or non-encyclopedic.

The text below is proposed replacement article copy, not a request to add the whole submission verbatim to the article. I have separated the changes so that each can be evaluated independently. Independent coverage is supplied for public milestones and artists; BandLab's Help Center is used only to verify technical/product specifications.

1. Infobox

Please update only the relevant fields in the existing infobox. The values for languages, parent, website, advertising, launch date, and active status in the current version are already substantially correct and may be retained without modification.

Reason: The present infobox lists 60 million users and treats Windows, macOS, Linux, and ChromeOS as native clients. This conflates operating systems that can run a supported browser with platforms on which the BandLab mobile app is installed. It also identifies Meng Ru Kuok as CEO despite the October 2026 leadership change at the parent company. Please retain the distinction between the BandLab product and the BandLab Technologies CEO role.

2. Lead (replace the current introductory paragraphs)

BandLab is a freemium social music creation platform and cloud-based digital audio workstation (DAW) developed by Technologies. It is accessible through a web browser and mobile applications for Android and iOS. The platform combines music recording and production tools with collaboration, social networking, publishing, and artist services.

BandLab launched worldwide in November 2015 following a period of testing. In March 2024, it surpassed 100 million registered users, up from 60 million in January 2023.

The platform is available without a paid subscription, while paid BandLab Membership plans provide additional creation tools, promotional features, and artist services.

Reason: This removes outdated and awkward claims that BandLab is primarily used for "selling" music, distinguishes the freemium model from its earlier freeware model, and updates the user figure with a date-qualified, independently reported milestone.

3. Features (replace the current section body under the existing heading)

BandLab combines music creation, collaboration, and social features. Its BandLab Studio is a cloud-based digital audio workstation that allows users to record, edit, and mix audio and MIDI through a web browser or mobile device. Projects can include recorded and imported audio, MIDI, virtual instruments, and samples from the BandLab Sounds library.

The Studio includes virtual instruments, a drum machine, a sampler, audio effects, pitch correction through AutoPitch, and automated mastering. BandLab's product documentation lists more than 370 virtual instruments.

Users can save projects to the cloud, invite collaborators, and share music through user profiles and other social features.

BandLab uses a freemium model. Free accounts provide core music-creation functionality, while paid Membership plans offer additional production tools, sounds, promotional features, and artist services, including music distribution to streaming services. BandLab introduced its distribution service in 2023 in partnership with FUGA.

Reason: The present Features section uses the subjective characterization "entry level" and a fragmented list of features. The replacement is a neutral summary based on official product documentation and independent reporting of the distribution launch.

4. History (replace the current section body under the existing heading)

BandLab officially launched worldwide on 3 November 2015 as a cloud-based music platform for web, iOS, and Android, with recording and online collaboration functionality.

BandLab was the title sponsor of the 2022 NME Awards, which were presented as the BandLab NME Awards 2022.

Reason: The current claim that Composr was acquired and converted into the BandLab platform is misleading, since BandLab launched in 2015 and the Composr acquisition happened in 2016. The current claim that the "BandLab DAW" raised $65 million in 2022 also confuses the software platform with its corporate owner: funding was raised by BandLab Technologies. If the funding is retained in this article rather than the parent-company article, please explicitly identify BandLab Technologies as the recipient. The current references to Luh Tyler and d4vd could instead be consolidated under the existing Notable people heading, where their relevance is clearer. Supporting reports: MusicRadar on Composr; Music Business Worldwide on company financing and structure.

5. Supported file formats and interfaces (replace the existing import/export claims)

BandLab's current supported-format documentation differs from the file-format list presently in the article. Please replace the outdated values with the following table. These are based on BandLab's published platform-specific specifications and were checked on 27 October 2026. The source labels the AAC import column "ACC"; the intended conventional audio-format designation is AAC.

BandLab supports different import and export file formats on its web, iOS, and Android versions.

BandLab supports compatible USB microphones and audio interfaces for recording microphones and instruments. Depending on the device, interfaces can be connected using USB, Micro-USB, USB-C, or Lightning.

BandLab also supports compatible MIDI controllers. These can be connected directly on supported computers or via compatible adapters on mobile devices.

Reason: The current article incorrectly lists, among other things, 320 kbps MP3 web exports and a narrower set of mobile import formats. These are technical product specifications, so an official support source is the appropriate reference for them.

6. Notable people (replace the current section body under the existing heading)

Several musicians have been reported by independent publications as using BandLab in their early recording or music-making processes.

Luh Tyler began recording music on his phone using BandLab in 2022, before the release of his early songs and later commercial success.

D4vd recorded early music using BandLab on his phone, having begun making his own songs after receiving copyright claims related to music used in his gaming videos.

Nettspend recorded his early music using BandLab on his phone, including vocals recorded in his mother's car. i-D and Pitchfork have both described his use of the app.

British rapper Tkandz has been reported as a frequent BandLab user, using the platform to experiment with and share music before the success of his 2025 song "NOW OR NEVER". In October 2026, he released the song "UP RIGHT NOW" exclusively on BandLab, according to an industry publication reporting from a BandLab press release.

Source qualifications for independent review:

 • The submitted draft also proposes listing Wisp. I have not located a sufficiently direct independent source connecting Wisp's recordings to BandLab, so I have not proposed a new claim about her here. If editors determine that the source already supporting the current Wisp mention is sufficient, they can retain it.
 • The 23 October 2026 Music Industry Weekly report about Tkandz's exclusive song expressly says that it was based on a BandLab press release. Please omit that recent-release detail if greater source independence is required.
 • Pitchfork contextualizes 2Slimey within a BandLab-associated production scene, but does not establish that any particular named track was recorded in BandLab. The suggested wording deliberately makes no song-specific claim.
 • Please remove any claim that Roddy Ricch used BandLab unless an independent, directly relevant source can be provided.

Other sections: No changes to the article's existing headings for Minimum system requirements, See also, References, Further reading, or External links are requested as part of this submission. The system-requirements list may also be outdated, but I have kept this request to the scope of the supplied proposed corrections rather than adding unsupported new requirements.

Thank you for reviewing these proposed changes. I recognize that content decisions rest with independent Wikipedia editors and am happy to provide further citations or clarification if requested.
