Comments
[edit]Interesting article on a 'new' species.

Done
Not sure I see the need for "would have had" when "had" is all that is needed.
"shed more information on" seems tangled, should be "shed more light on".
- xeros just means "dry" in Greek.
- They define it as arid in their paper. Should I perhaps say "arid or dry"?
- OK, dry is the basic meaning.

Images
[edit]PeerJ material is CC-by-4.0 (i.e. images licensed compatibly with Commons) so we should copy directly from the Samuels paper [1], with attribution:
A cladogram showing the phylogeny of Aurimys with respect to its nearest neighbours
The image of the skull and jawbones.
Since the article will be much stronger with these images, these can be taken as mandatory under the GAN coverage of "the main points" criterion.
- Both have been added. Fantastic catch!
- Super.
- You might like to include an image of an extant member of Dipodomyinae like a kangaroo rat for comparison.
Sources
[edit]- The sources used are scientific and highly relevant, including the species description.
- Spot-checks: [1] - checked 5 of the multiple claims, all ok; [2] ok; [3] is paywalled but looks correct from abstract; [4] ok.
Summary
[edit]- Other than the inclusion of images from the original description, I have no major comments on the paper, so I expect to see it at GA very shortly. Chiswick Chap (talk) 14:57, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
