Resurgence started in 1995, not 1996

[edit]

Art Garfunkel closed the World Liberty Concert in the Netherlands on 8 May 1996 (50th anniversary of VE), singing Bridge over Troubled Water to tumultuous applause.

See e.g. YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=naBgl4XdOlE - but that is unofficial, and thus not an acceptable source.

Linking to the page on the World Liberty Concert isn't either, so my edits were nixed.

Can I suggest we use the following reference to an (archived) web-page of the official production company?

Up 'til Now

[edit]

Where has the article gone in regards to Art Garfunkel's album Up 'til Now? The link nor just re directs to his main article. 24Kieran7 (talk) 20:18, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

@24Kieran7: Up 'til Now was redirected to Art Garfunkel on 19 May 2024 by User:I dream of horses. They did not give a reason, and they have not edited since 11 December 2024. DuncanHill (talk) 20:43, 28 August 2025 (UTC)Reply
That's a shame. It is a loss of good information. Thank you. 24Kieran7 (talk) 18:56, 31 August 2025 (UTC)Reply

Garfunkel’s sexuality

[edit]

Hi all, I’m keen to open discussion of this paragraph here to avoid further back-and-forth edits.

I am not a fan of the current wording of “Garfunkel came out with his memoir”; I understand why it has been left intentionally vague in that way but that’s not really appropriate for Wikipedia.

Personally, I am in favour of removing this paragraph entirely. It does not appear that any major publications reported on the relevant passage in Garfunkel’s memoir; without the specific claim that this was him coming out as bisexual (which it doesn’t seem like editors agree on), it adds no information, only inviting speculation from the reader.

If anyone can find any reporting on this apparent coming out then I think a wording like the following would be appropriate:

In Garfunkel’s 2017 memoir What Is It All but Luminous: Notes from an Underground Man, he described being “a lover of… all beautiful bodies, boys and girls”. Some commentators suggested this was Garfunkel coming out as bisexual, but he has not made an official comment.

What do you all think?

@Audrey Woolf My edit was reverting the direct quote from his memoir, as it was changed to something that is not what was written. While I have limited subject knowledge, the couple pages of his memoir I read does portray it that he viewed sexuality fluidly (at least in his younger years). I agree that the wording in the article is not helpful and I also strongly agree that this statement in his memoir is not a "coming out", instead being commentary. That said, when I had initially reviewed the paragraph after it was flagged as potential vandalism, I took the "came out" to mean "published"; reading it again now I agree the editorial intent was likely to indicate a coming out of sexuality. Perhaps a compromise is simply changing it to read that he "published his memoir", and then something akin to "commenting that his views on sexuality were >direct quote from memoir<" or something similar. --Slazenger (Contact Me) 23:36, 7 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
I don't think we have enough footing to support any sweeping conclusions. If he was really "coming out" as bisexual then the LGBTQ community media would have published pieces about it, which is not the case. The quote was added in January 2023 by an editor who made no other edits. It's clear that the quote is taken from a primary source, which does not show that the quote is important to Garfunkel's life and career. The way to show importance is to cite WP:SECONDARY sources talking about it. Because of that, the whole paragraph should be removed per WP:WEIGHT. Binksternet (talk) 02:12, 8 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Agreed that if no secondary sources can be produced the paragraph has no place in the article. --Slazenger (Contact Me) 04:57, 8 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

I think it should only be told truth

[edit]

No because I am in contact with his son amd he says, he never said it and is not true. Does any one want, that this discussion is going on or is wikipedia a dictionary whixh only wants to talk about facts? Team Art Garfunkel und Art Garfunkel Jr (talk) 23:10, 7 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

It may not be true that Garfunkel is bisexual, but he definitely did say/write things that have caused this speculation. You seem to be claiming that he did not write in his memoir that he was a “lover of all beautiful asses, beautiful faces, beautiful bodies, boys and girls”, but I have verified he did. It’s on page 33 of the edition I’m looking at. Audrey Woolf (talk) 23:23, 7 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
i know, I talked about the theme bisxual that is no where proved Team Art Garfunkel und Art Garfunkel Jr (talk) 23:24, 7 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
Okay, so what do you think it should say? You should know that any conversation you might have had should make no difference to Wikipedia unless you can cite it according to Wikipedia’s guidelines Audrey Woolf (talk) 23:27, 7 January 2026 (UTC)Reply

Untrue Lou Pearlman connection

[edit]

I removed a sentence about a relation between Garfunkel and Lou Pearlman. It was an incredible line, but all of the sources appeared to be bogus, so this was a huge BLP problem. This People article suggests the connection might be real, but I am concerned about citogenesis and would need many more eyes on this. ~Maplestrip/Mable (chat) 20:05, 7 April 2026 (UTC)Reply
