Proposed merge

[edit]

This article currently duplicates information already covered in Gun laws of Australia and Gun laws in Australia, where the December 2025 national gun buyback announcement is summarised. At present, this page does not add substantive encyclopaedic detail beyond what is already included in those broader policy articles.

Per WP:SUMMARYSTYLE and WP:MERGE, the topic appears better handled as a subsection within the existing gun law overview unless further details emerge regarding legislation, scope, funding, implementation, or outcomes.

I propose merging this content into Gun laws of Australia and retaining a redirect from this title. Doobie777 (talk) 05:53, 19 December 2025 (UTC)Reply

Hello!
Later today I plan to add more background info including legislation and what the program actually seeks to do. So, once this is done, will the redirect no longer be needed if such info is sufficient? Delcoan (talk) 14:39, 19 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Delcoan: This article should be merged with Gun laws of Australia which already has a section for the 2025 Bondi Beach attack and the 1996 Port Arthur massacre. I don't see a need yet for a standalone article for this topic. The Prime Minister has proposed a National Gun Buyback Scheme. This will depend upon the states and territories agreeing to ambitious new gun law reforms. Once there is an agreement on new gun laws, and legislation is enacted, there would be a need for a standalone article. Melbguy05 (talk) 11:51, 30 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
I rectract my proposal to merge the article. I have expanded the article since and will continue to. Melbguy05 (talk) 09:21, 8 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
