Paramount Primal is an American film label of Paramount Pictures, and is owned by Skydance Corporation. The label is headed by producers J. D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules, formerly of BoulderLight Pictures. It focuses on producing films across genres including horror, comedy, action, and science fiction, with an emphasis on relatively modestly budgeted projects.[2]

History

[edit]

In September 2025, Paramount Pictures reached a deal with producers J.D. Lifshitz and Raphael Margules of BoulderLight Pictures to lead a new film label. The agreement was scheduled to take effect in January 2026, following the expiration of their deal with Warner Bros. Under the arrangement, Lifshitz and Margules would develop and produce films across multiple genres. BoulderLight Pictures was also given the opportunity to participate as an equity co-financier on projects.[3]

In July 2026, the label was publicly introduced as Paramount Primal. One of its first announced projects was a new film based on A Nightmare on Elm Street, developed from Wes Craven's original screenplay. Members of the Craven estate were attached as producers, while Lifshitz and Margules served as executive producers.[4] The following day, Paramount Primal announced that the comedy Boys for Life, directed by Tyler Falbo and written by Falbo and Max Barrett, was scheduled for theatrical release on April 9, 2027.[5]
