Potential LLM generation issues

Citation #1 is to https://mullvad.net/en/blog/mullvad-has-partnered-with-obscura-vpn, which is a 404. The correct link is https://mullvad.net/en/blog/mullvad-partnered-with-obscura-vpn. Archive.org doesn't show any previous archives for the incorrect link.

Citation #8, for "In November 2025, the service added Monero as a payment method alongside Bitcoin's Lightning Network.", is an article published in March 2025 that does not mention Monero: https://www.tomsguide.com/computing/vpns/obscura-vpn-wants-to-be-the-best-darn-vpn-out-there-can-it

@FlammablePizza Since you accepted this article, can you take a closer look at it? These kinds of source-text integrity issues are characteristic of articles that are largely LLM-generated - the citations look plausible but don't hold up. Dreamyshade (talk) 06:59, 1 September 2026 (UTC)

Looking at the page history, it looks like the line about Monero was originally supported by the official site. However, it was moved to its current section without its citation also being moved.

When the page was first created, it used the correct citation 1 link with the title “Mullvad has partnered with Obscura VPN”. A later edit inserted the incorrect “has” into the link (though I can’t say why (could have been a person but a LLM is semi-plausible here).

It doesn’t strongly seem as LLM to me, but these concerns certainly should have been addressed before AfC. I would support it being draftified until cleanup is done and another reviewer can look it over (this was my first acceptance, but this shouldn’t have been missed anyways). @~2026-47397-48 (@BrianMendoza12) Article still needs substantial work. For example, this article does not exist: Farivar, Cyrus (9 October 2017). "VPN logs helped unmask alleged cyberstalker, say feds". Ars Technica. Certainly plausible that Cyrus could have written about this, but there's no evidence he did. A Register article with that name does exist. This is a characteristic issue when generating articles with LLMs. There are additional issues. I'm going to go ahead and draftify it so it can be properly reworked before resubmission.

I find it helpful to use https://wikipedia.gptzero.me/ and User:Alaexis/AI Source Verification to flag potential issues - definitely can't rely on the automated approach, need to use your own analysis, but they help me prioritize which bits to check in more depth.
