Translating for Humanity (Romanian: Asociația Translating for Humanity, TFH) is a Romanian non-governmental organization providing pro bono translation and interpreting services in medical contexts, especially for vulnerable people. Laura Călin, its founder, started this when she identified that a simple translation becomes a huge part of the process of saving a life, especially when abroad medical interventions are the last hope.[1].

One of its early projects, called ”Volunteers for life” (Romanian: Voluntari pentru viață), provided this kind of translation of medical documents for patients seeking medical treatment abroad who could not afford commercial translation services. The project involved volunteer translators and medical professionals and operated nationally. In 2022, this project received third prize in the Volunteering Projects category of the Civil Society Gala, an annual Romanian competition recognizing civil society initiatives [2].

In 2024, Translating for Humanity launched a telephone emergency language assistance service, providing remote interpretation for people facing language barriers in situations of medical emergency. The service was launched with support of Green Horse Romania [3].

The organization operates programs supporting medical mobility, including the translation of medical documents for patients receiving or seeking treatment abroad. An independent project profile published by dm {împreună} describes the program as a national initiative supporting patients who require medical treatment or investigations outside Romania [4]
