The Expendabelles is an upcoming American action thriller film. It is a spin-off and the fifth installment in The Expendables franchise.
Production

[edit]In October 2012, it was announced that a spin-off in The Expendables franchise, featuring a female-led ensemble cast was in development, with Milla Jovovich, Meryl Streep, and Cameron Diaz in talks to join the film.[1] In December, Charlize Theron was also in talks to join.[2] In February 2014, Robert Luketic had been hired to direct the film, with Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah writing the script.[3] In August 2014, The Expendables franchise star Sylvester Stallone suggested Sigourney Weaver to portray his character Barney Ross' spouse with production originally stated to begin in 2015,[4] but Weaver later declined the offer.[5]
In November 2022, the project had been in development hell and was ultimately cancelled.[6] In November 2025, Lionsgate acquired the rights to the Expendables film franchise.[7]
The project re-entered development in May 2026, with Heidi Jo Markel and Glenn Gainor producing, and currently searching for directors and screenwriters.[8]
