The Circuit is a digital news publication covering business and technology in the Middle East and North Africa. Its main product is a daily email newsletter, The Daily Circuit.[1][2] The publication was founded by Max Neuberger, who is also its publisher.[1][3]
In August 2026 the German media company Axel Springer announced an investment in The Circuit.[2][3]
History
[edit]The Circuit began publishing in 2022. A weekly newsletter, The Weekly Circuit, launched that May and described the outlet's approach as covering the region through a business and cultural lens.[4] It later became a daily.[1]
Axel Springer announced its investment on August 26, 2026. At the same time the company, which owns Bild, Politico, Business Insider and The Telegraph, said it was opening an office in Abu Dhabi under the name Axel Springer Middle East, to be run by Frank Mahlberg, previously chief operating officer of the Bild group. It was the company's first office in the United Arab Emirates.[2] Neuberger told Semafor that further details of the investment would be released later.[3]
Semafor placed the investment alongside other Western outlets' recent moves into the Gulf, including a regional newsletter from Fortune and the Middle East Currents newsletter from Reuters.[5] It also pointed out that Axel Springer's chief executive, Mathias Döpfner, had said earlier in 2026 that the company did not invest in nondemocratic countries. An Axel Springer spokesperson responded that The Circuit was incorporated in the United States with staff in several countries, and that the company assessed each location case by case; in the UAE, the spokesperson said, the trend was positive.[3]
Content
[edit]The Daily Circuit covers business and technology news across the Middle East, with particular attention to the Gulf's sovereign wealth funds and to investment and deal activity.[1][2] The website also publishes longer features and short news items, and maintains organizational charts of the major Gulf sovereign funds.[1] Full access to articles and to the complete daily newsletter requires a paid subscription.[6] The company also prepares briefings for institutions, companies and industry events.[2]
Staff
[edit]Neuberger, who also publishes Jewish Insider and eJewishPhilanthropy, serves as publisher.[1][7][8] Jonathan H. Ferziger is managing editor, Ali Kaufman Yares is chief operating officer, Omnia Al Desoukie is a reporter and Louise Burke is copy editor.[1]
