Rommulas

[edit]

Roman Ray Leal (born April 10, 2004), known professionally as Rommulas, is a Mexican-American rapper.[1][2], singer.[3][4]

Early life

[edit]

Roman Ray Leal was born on April 10, 2004, in the United States. He spent his childhood and adolescence growing up in Los Angeles, California. Leal has characterized his upbringing in the city during the early 2000s as both "adventurous" and "rowdy".[2]

During his youth, Leal developed a diverse palette of musical influences. His early life was heavily influenced by 1990s hip-hop and 2000s R&B. As a teenager, his tastes shifted toward experimental electronic music, citing avant-garde electronic producer Arca as a major influence on his artistic development. This blend of aggressive hip-hop structures and experimental electronic textures later formed the foundation for his collaborative musical output[5][6] in the underground digital music scene.

Career

[edit]

Rommulas began his career in the underground digital music scene as part of the Boyliife collective, a inner circle of Los Angeles-based internet rappers and producers that includes musicians like 2hollis and Nate Sib. Prior to recording his own vocals, he initially connected with Nate Sib online before acquiring his own personal laptop to produce music.[2]

He experienced his commercial breakthrough with the independent release of his collaborative single "ouu" now known as "left to right" featuring 2hollis. The track gained significant traction on digital streaming platforms, quickly garnering over 10 million streams on Spotify and serving as his formal introduction to a mainstream audience. Music critics noted the track's distinctive fusion of avant-garde pop, hyperpop, and reggaeton structures, praising Rommulas for seamlessly weaving English and Spanish lyrics.[5]

Following his breakthrough year, Rommulas signed a major label recording contract with Warner Records. He subsequently embarked on extensive live performances, joining the lineup of The Star Tour[7] alongside 2hollis, Nate Sib, Mechatok, and the electronic duo The Hellp across North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, and Oceania. He also performed live sets at music venues such as The Echoplex in Los Angeles and appeared at major international festivals including Lollapalooza in Argentina, Brazil, and Chile[8]

On July 17, 2026, Rommulas released his first single under Warner Records, titled "PALETA"[9]. The song marked a recognized evolution in his production style, transitioning his signature hyperpop-reggaeton fusion into a darker, "deconstructed club" electronic music sound.
