The local Muhammadans have requested Government to do necessary repairs (or rebuilding of the mosque, which it would amount to) through lack of local funds. I visited these places and found that the former is practically an entire ruin and architecturally of absolutely no interest. Inside is an inscribed granite block measuring 5 feet by 1 foot by 9 inches high, which states that the mosque was built at a date corresponding to 1657. From its appearance, however, I should imagine that it was erected at a considerably later date. The structure is quite small. It is constructed of brick, and had three small entrances, three domes and four corner turrets; the domes and turrets are now fallen It is much covered with jungle and not worth repairing. In my opinion Government need do nothing on an archæological score. The tomb, which stands in front of the mosque, is an ordinary grave with no building over it. It is built of stone plastered. Some of the stones have got a little out of place and the plaster is peeling off. As repairs will only cost a few rupees I have recommended that they shall be undertaken, not because the monument has any architectural value, but because the tomb is that of a Governor who represented the short Muhammadan rule in this part of Assam.
