Comment: In preparing this draft, I disclose that AI assistance was used as follows: The article text was written by me from the various sources provided. I then used an AI assistant (Claude) to find and summarize candidate sources, pull quotes from them (though verified myself), check sentences against articles for accuracy, generate citation templates and wikitext formatting, and flag grammar and style issues. It did not write the prose of the article. Thank you for reviewing. KD revisions (talk) 22:15, 7 October 2026 (UTC)

Comment: Most of the sources are based on what they say so not useful for notability. Also, multiple articles by the same author/publication are generally considered a single source. Reuters makes no mention of them so should not be used nor another other sources that do mention the company. S0091 (talk) 17:41, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
Comment: Revised after decline. Added independent coverage from Computerworld (July 2024, three named analysts), TechTarget (two additional authors, 2024 and 2026), and Techzine; removed Reuters and other sources that do not name the company. Text written by hand from the sources; software used only for citation formatting. KD revisions (talk) 22:12, 7 October 2026 (UTC)

Omnissa is an American enterprise software company that makes endpoint management and virtual desktop software.[2][3] It was formed from VMware's End-User Computing division after Broadcom acquired VMware and sold the division to KKR.[4][2] It began operating independently on July 1, 2024.[5] The company's main product lines are Workspace ONE and Horizon.[2]
History
[edit]Broadcom completed its acquisition of VMware in November 2023. In February 2024 Broadcom agreed to sell the End-User Computing division to KKR for approximately $4 billion.[1][4] The division's products included Workspace ONE (endpoint management) and Horizon (virtual desktops). VMware's desktop hypervisors, Workstation and Fusion, were not part of the sale.[2]
Omnissa and Broadcom entered into a reseller agreement where Omnissa could offer "combined offering" versions of Horizon SaaS and Horizon Term SKUs with vSphere Foundation for VDI. The bundle included vSphere, vCenter, and vSAN. On the partner end, Broadcom ended VMware's program in favor of an invitation-only approach in February 2024, forcing Omnissa to rebuild its partner program from scratch.[4]
Launch
[edit]The End-User Computing division adopted the Omnissa name in spring 2024 while the sale was pending.[6] The sale closed on July 1, 2024, with a company headcount of about 4,000 employees at launch.[7][2] KKR said it would put in place its employee ownership program at Omnissa.[5] The company said it would develop "AI-infused" workspaces it described as self-healing, self-configuring, and self-securing.[3] However, according to The Register's reporting on the new company's plans, details and a time frame were not provided.[3]
Products
[edit]Workspace ONE is a unified endpoint management product, originally AirWatch, which was renamed in 2018.[2] Omnissa Horizon is a desktop and application virtualization product, formerly VMware Horizon.[2] In January 2026, Gartner placed Omnissa in the Leaders quadrant of its Magic Quadrant for Endpoint Management Tools.[8] In August 2025 Gartner placed Omnissa in the Leaders quadrant of its Magic Quadrant for Desktop as a Service.[9] In 2025 the company expanded into server management and support for non-VMware hypervisors.[10]
Reception
[edit]The launch of Omnissa mentioned VMware only briefly as a footnote. IDC analyst Shannon Kalvar said Omnissa had the opportunity to lay out a vision for end user computing in an era where companies are becoming more reliant on being digital and AI-driven. Info-Tech Research Group's John Annand said Omnissa was aggressively looking to retain the former VMware client base. Forrester analyst Naveen Chhabra also stated companies that previously used VMware EUC products would have to work with Omnissa for continued support, and that support was critical for most large organizations for security, performance, and functionality. Chhabra said this transition would not be easy or straightforward, and that there were credible vendor alternatives, but that customers would still have to deal with a migration that would not be comfortable.[11]
In August 2024 Gartner analysts advised VMware EUC customers to conduct risk assessments and plan for contingencies, citing Omnissa's lack of detailed product roadmaps and the dependence on Broadcom for underlying VMware licensing.[12][13]
Following Omnissa ONE 2025, TechTarget analyst Gabe Knuth wrote that, while the prior 2024 conference was heavy on AI (lacking focus on practical questions customers had around the VMware to Broadcom to Omnissa transition), he felt that the company "has a clear, sharp direction" after just one year with a focused strategy around its Autonomous Workspace vision. Knuth said Omnissa's autonomous endpoint management features were a mix of vision and reality, and future execution would be critical.[14]
Gartner's January 2026 Magic Quadrant reported that the ownership changes caused disruption to service and sales while Workspace ONE pricing was at the higher end among vendors evaluated.[8] TechTarget's Helen Searle-Jones reported increased licensing costs for Horizon and Workspace ONE, less favorable terms, fewer customization options, and the uncertainty about long-term support around the rebrand.[15]
A March 2026 Virtualization Review assessment stated that VMware references were removed from Horizon's file paths, services, and registry, which created additional migration work for administrators. The article stated that since the separation from Broadcom, the pace at which new Horizon features are released has increased along with the quality of support.[16]
Leadership
[edit]Shankar Iyer was CEO from the company's launch in July 2024.[7][3] In September 2026, Iyer was succeeded by Amit Singh, previously president of Palo Alto Networks and a co-founder of Google Cloud.[17][18]
