Comment: As a rule of thumb, sources with titles like "Here's everything you need to know about [company]"
and"How [company] is [verb]ing [industry]"
are not useful to establish notability, usually being based on press releases or interviews with company founders. Reports on funding series are WP:CORPTRIV, and a partnership with Snoop Dogg does nothing for notability because notability isn't transferrable like that. Novelship is a Singapore-based online marketplace for sneakers, streetwear, and collectibles.[1][2] Founded in 2018 by Richard Xia and Chris Xue, the platform operates in several Asia-Pacific markets, including Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, and Japan.[3][4] In 2022, Novelship was included in the Forbes Asia "100 to Watch" list.[5]
History
[edit]Richard Xia and Chris Xue founded Novelship in 2018 in Singapore to address issues of fraud and inconsistent pricing in the sneaker resale market.[6][7] The platform was designed with a centralized system for listings, payments, authentication, and shipping.[6] Initially focused on limited-edition sneakers and streetwear, the company later expanded its product categories to include collectibles and other apparel.[8]
Novelship secured US$2 million in seed funding from Global Founders Capital in 2019, which supported its initial regional expansion.[6][9] In May 2022, the company raised US$10 million in Series A funding in a round led by GSR Ventures and East Ventures, with participation from iGlobe Partners and K3 Ventures.[10] The company began operations in Malaysia in 2019, followed by Indonesia, Australia, New Zealand, Taiwan, and Japan.[3][4] During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company reported an acceleration in e-commerce activity.[11]
In 2023, the company raised US$9.5 million in a Series B funding round led by East Ventures, with participation from iGlobe Partners and GSR Ventures.[12][13] The same year, Novelship announced a collaboration with American rapper Snoop Dogg, who joined the company as a strategic adviser.[1][14]
Services
[edit]Novelship operates as a marketplace where sellers can list items for sale at a fixed price. The platform also allows buyers to submit offers which sellers can choose to accept.[15]
A key feature of the platform is its mandatory authentication process.[9] Sellers ship their items to a Novelship facility, where they are inspected for authenticity and condition before being sent to the buyer.[2][9] According to the company, this process is intended to reduce the risk of counterfeit goods.[6][9] The platform also integrated cryptocurrency payments, accepting Bitcoin and other digital currencies.[16]
