Career

[edit]

Film production and Shadow Days

[edit]

Before directing her own films, Liu worked in investment and became involved in independent film production. She was a producer of Chinese filmmaker Zhao Dayong's feature film Shadow Days (Gui ri zi).

Official documentation from the Berlinale Forum credits Zhao Dayong and David Bandurski of Lantern Films China and Liu of Skyforth Investment Fund Management as producers of the film. Shadow Days had its world premiere on 7 February 2014 in the Berlinale Forum.[2]

French film publication AlloCiné documented Liu's involvement in the production in its background material on the financing of Shadow Days. Director Zhao Dayong said that obtaining financing for the independent production took approximately three years and described meeting Liu, who managed an investment fund and had an interest in cinema and in his film.[3]

AlloCiné's production credits separately list Liu as an executive producer of Shadow Days, alongside Zhao and Bandurski.[4]

Directing

[edit]

Liu later moved into directing and screenwriting. She directed and wrote the 2023 crime drama Lost in 24 and appeared in the film as Jennifer. The story concerns a mother's search for her missing daughter and incorporates themes of human trafficking and illegal organ trafficking.

A 2023 article in Heart of Hollywood Magazine identified Liu as the film's screenwriter, director and producer and discussed its human-trafficking themes.[5] Rotten Tomatoes also maintains a listing for Lost in 24 and its cast and crew.[6]

Liu subsequently directed and appeared in the drama film Blooming Sisters. In May 2024, she promoted the film while attending the Cannes Film Festival. Hong Kong 01 reported on Liu's appearance and identified her as an actress and director associated with the film. The publication also reported that Blooming Sisters was not included in an official section of the Cannes Film Festival.[7]

Malaysia's China Press also reported Liu's Cannes appearance and her promotion of Blooming Sisters.[8]

Liu's subsequent film work included Phoebe's Echo. In 2025, the film received the Best Suspense Thriller Feature Film award at the Marina del Rey Film Festival, according to the festival's official awards record.[9]

Aegean Love

[edit]

Liu later became involved in the feature film Aegean Love, which was filmed in Greece, including on the island of Skiathos.

In October 2025, the Greek Ministry of Tourism reported that Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni met Liu in Skiathos. The ministry identified Liu as president of the Superstar Art Foundation and producer of Aegean Love, which was being filmed on the island at the time. According to the ministry, the meeting included discussion of Greece as a destination for film productions and the contribution of cinema to the international promotion of Greek tourism.[10]

Greek travel-industry publication GTP Headlines also reported the meeting, identifying Liu as producer of Aegean Love and reporting that the production was filming in Skiathos. The publication said that the discussion concerned Greece's potential as a destination for film productions and cinema's role in promoting tourism.[11]

Visual art

[edit]

In addition to filmmaking, Liu works in visual art, particularly oil painting and portraiture. In an interview with Shoutout DFW, she described studying the techniques of classical painters through oil painting and portrait work.[1]

A profile published by the Miranda de Ebro Film Festival also described Liu's work as a visual artist and reported that her oil painting Roaring Tiger 2022 was displayed on a screen in Times Square in New York.[12]

Arts and cultural activities

[edit]

Liu is president of the Superstar Art Foundation and has been involved in arts and cultural programs associated with the organization. These activities have included film, visual art, the Superstar Awards and Miss Economic World. A Dallas-area Shoutout DFW profile discussed Liu's filmmaking, visual art and leadership of the organization.[1]

Her work with the foundation has developed alongside her film and visual-art activities. The organization has been involved in arts events and cultural programs in the United States and internationally.
