‘’‘Kudzai Amon Toto’’’ is a Namibian biomedical engineer and mechanical design engineer whose work has focused on orthopedic spinal implants, surgical instrumentation, and technologies used in spinal navigation and robotic-assisted surgery. He currently works as a mechanical design engineer for ATEC Spine, Inc. in Carlsbad, California.

Early life and education

Kudzai Amon Toto was born in Rundu, Namibia 1998. He played junior ITF until 2016[1], he moved to the United States on a tennis scholarship to pursue his academic studies while participating in collegiate tennis. [2] [3]

He earned a Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering in 2021 from Indiana Institute of Technology and a Master of Engineering in Biomedical Engineering at Clemson University. [4][5] His academic studies included biomedical engineering, biomechanics, medical device design, biomaterials, and mechanical engineering principles applied to healthcare technologies.

Career

CTL Amedica

After completing his graduate education, Toto worked for CTL Amedica in the Philadelphia metropolitan area of Philadelphia. [6] CTL Amedica is a medical-device company involved in the development of spinal implants and surgical instrumentation.

During his time at the company, Toto worked in research and development and contributed to the design and development of spinal implants and instruments used in spine orthopedic and neurosurgical procedures. [7]

ATEC Spine

In 2026, Toto joined ATEC Spine, Inc. as a mechanical design engineer in Carlsbad, California. ATEC Spine develops technologies for spine surgery, including spinal implants, surgical instruments, navigation systems, and robotic-assisted surgical technologies.

His work at ATEC focuses on the mechanical design and development of surgical instruments and equipment associated with spinal navigation.[8]
