  • Comment: The subject appears to meet the notability requirements of WP:NPROF. But we can't accept AI submissions. Linked to this we have the relentless promotional tone and it is over the top. It's not great to tell the reader that the reader that the subject is "internationally recognised", "distinguished" or "outstanding" in this or that, with zero secondary sourcing, and it is unnecessary. The subject's profile should be more than sufficient to carry the point without it needing to be made. Dial that back, get a human being on the job, and you have the makings of a reasonable article. Kishan Dholakia is a physicist and professor specialising in optics and photonics. He holds positions at the University of Adelaide in Australia and the University of St Andrews in Scotland. His research centres on the development of optical manipulation techniques, including optical tweezers and structured light beams, and their applications in biology and medicine. In 2026, he was elected a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Science.[4]

Career

Dholakia began his academic career in the United Kingdom. He spent many years at the University of St Andrews, where he established the Centre of Biophotonics and built a research group focused on light-based technologies.[5]

In 2020, he joined the University of Adelaide as a professor. In 2023, he founded the Centre of Light for Life at the University of Adelaide, which aims to advance research in photonics and its applications in health and life sciences.[6]

Research

Dholakia's research focuses on using shaped light fields to manipulate matter at microscopic scales. His work includes the development and application of optical tweezers, which use lasers to trap and move microscopic particles, cells, and molecules. He has also researched structured light beams, including Bessel beams and Airy beams, for use in biological environments.[7]

Dholakia's research group has worked on light-sheet microscopy, an imaging technique used in developmental biology and regenerative medicine. His research also includes the study of light-matter interactions. One experiment from his group achieved the fastest man-made rotation of a microscopic object, which was recognised by the Guinness World Records.[8]
