Kevin Campbell is an American visual artist. Born in Camp Atterbury, Indiana,[1] he was been making art professionally since his 20s. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art from Ball State University in 1977. He is best known for his artwork Puzzle Project, a conceptual work of art the takes the form of a gigantic wooden jigsaw puzzle. His current works span from photo real, to abstract, to sculpture. Campbell previously worked as an illustrator on the comic strip Garfield. He currently resides in Muncie, Indiana.
Career
[edit]Puzzle Project
[edit]Puzzle Project is a conceptual work of art featuring individual puzzle pieces that is growing in size indefinitely as Campbell continues to add onto it. As it grows, pieces and groups of pieces are separated from the whole and treated as individual groups of art. The project is a collective effort, as different artists are enlisted to contribute. The first piece of Puzzle Project was created in 1994.
Sweet Thursday
[edit]Sweet Thursday is a 812-piece group installation as a part of the larger Puzzle Project. It was shown in ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 2014.
Garfield
[edit]Campbell worked as an illustrator and voice actor at Paws, Incorporated. His illustration credits include Garfield and "Babes and Bullets: The Continuing Adventures of Sam Spayed"[2] featured in Garfield: His 9 Lives. "Babes and Bullets" was turned into a television special directed by Phil Roman titled Garfield's Babes and Bullets.
