Keezy Young is an American cartoonist. They^[a] are notable for the graphic novels Taproot: A Story About A Gardener and a Ghost and Hello Sunshine, as well as the autobiographical short comic Sunflowers.

Career

Graphic Novels

In 2017, Young's Taproot: A Story About A Gardener and a Ghost was published by Lion Forge. Originally released a webcomic, the graphic novel focuses on the romance between Blue, a ghost, and Hamal, a gardener with the ability to see ghosts.^[2]^[3]^[4] It was featured The Advocate's 2017 list of Best LGBTQ Graphic Novels as well as Newsarama's Best of Best Shots 2017.^[5]^[6]

In 2025, Young published the supernatural horror graphic novel Hello Sunshine. It centers on the disappearance of Jamie, a boy with schizoaffective disorder, and the attempts by his boyfriend Noah, twin brother Alex, and friends Izzy and Skylar to find him, and their encounters with a supernatural threat as they do so.^[7]^[8]^[9] The book was nominated for the Eisner Award for Best Publication for Teens, as well as the upcoming Harvey Award for Best Young Adult Book and Ringo Award for Best Kids Comic or Graphic Novel – Ages 12 and Up.^[10]^[11]^[12]

Comics

In 2024, Young published, Sunflowers, an autobiographical short comic about their experiences with bipolar disorder and psychosis through Silver Sprocket.^[13] It was nominated for the Eisner Award for Best Single issue/One-shot.^[14]

Other comics by Young include the horror minicomic It’s Bitter, Baby, and it’s Very Sweet, The July Fashion Issue, and the autobiographical Just Going For a Walk.^[15]^[16]^[17]

Personal life

Keezy is queer.^[1] They have bipolar disorder.^[18]^[19] As of 2022, they live in the the Pacific Northwest.^[1]
