KLM UK Engineering (MRO)
[edit]KLM UK Engineering Limited is a British aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) company based at Norwich International Airport. The company is a wholly owned subsidiary of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines and operates as part of the Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance network.[1][2]
KLM UK Engineering provides aircraft maintenance services including base maintenance, line maintenance, component repair, aircraft disassembly and aviation engineering training.[3][4]
History
[edit]Maintenance activities associated with the organisation originated at Norwich Airport in the 1970s to support operations of the regional airline Air Anglia.[5]
In 1980, Air Anglia merged with several other regional carriers to form AirUK, with engineering operations continuing to be based in Norwich.[6]
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines became the sole owner of Air UK in 1997.[7] Following the closure of Air UK in 1998, the engineering division continued to operate as an aircraft maintenance provider within the KLM group.[8]
The company subsequently became known as KLM UK Engineering Limited and later formed part of the Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance network following the merger of Air France and KLM in 2004.[9]
Facilities
[edit]The company’s primary facilities are located at Norwich International Airport, where it operates aircraft maintenance hangars and engineering workshops.[10][11]
In 2019 Norwich Airport announced construction of a new maintenance hangar and workshop complex to support expansion of KLM UK Engineering’s operations.[12][13]
The Norwich site also includes facilities for aircraft disassembly and recycling.[14]

[edit]Base maintenance activities are carried out at the Norwich facility and include scheduled heavy maintenance checks, structural inspection and repair work for commercial aircraft.[15]
Line maintenance
[edit]The company operates line maintenance stations at several airports within the United Kingdom, providing routine aircraft maintenance between scheduled flights.[16]
Aircraft disassembly
[edit]KLM UK Engineering operates an aircraft dismantling and recycling facility at Norwich and has received accreditation from the Aircraft Fleet Recycling Association.[17]
Training
