Jesus Armando Osete (born 1991) (known professionally as Jesus Osete) is the Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights in the United States Department of Justice. He has been announced as a nominee to serve as a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri.
Education
[edit]Born in 1991 in Hermosillo, State of Sonora, Mexico, Osete received a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2013 from the University of Arizona and a Juris Doctor in 2016 from the Washington University School of Law at Washington University in St. Louis. From 2016 to 2018, he was a law clerk for Judge Zel Fischer of the Supreme Court of Missouri and from 2018 to 2019, he was a law clerk for Judge Bobby Shepherd of the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit.[1]
Career
[edit]Osete is currently the Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights in the United States Department of Justice since 2025, and served as the Deputy Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights in 2025. From 2023 to 2025, he served as an associate attorney for the law firm of Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP. From 2022 to 2023, he served as general counsel in the Missouri Secretary of State's Office. From 2020 to 2022, he served in the Missouri Attorney General's Office, as Deputy Solicitor General from 2020 to 2021, and as Deputy Attorney General for Special Litigation from 2021 to 2022. From 2019 to 2020, he was an associate attorney for the law firm of Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner LLP.[1]
In late 2025, Osete was seriously considered to be a nominee for the United States Court of Appeals for the Eighth Circuit. Justin D. Smith was ultimately nominated and confirmed.[2]
Nomination to district court
[edit]On August 20, 2026, President Donald Trump announced his intention to nominate Osete to an undesignated seat on the United States District Court for the Western District of Missouri.
