Janina Rossiter is a French–German author, artist and environmental activist. Her work focuses on ocean conservation and climate awareness.
Early life and education

Career
[edit]Rossiter is the author of a number of books including the Tovi the Penguin series and 1, 2, 3, Who’s Cleaning the Sea?
Illustrations from her book 1, 2, 3, Who’s Cleaning the Sea? appeared in the 2022 “Art for Change” section at the ChangeNOW Summit in Paris.
In 2025, she served as a judge of the Welsh NGO and Coldplay launch creative competition.[1]
Awards and honors
[edit]The illustration Mangrove was awarded Sketch for Survival – Wild Spaces Artist of the Year at the Explorers Against Extinction awards, held at the Royal Geographical Society in London.[2]
Her book 1, 2, 3, Who’s Cleaning the Sea? was named runner-up in the Arts category at the P.E.A. (People. Environment. Achievement.) Awards for its environmental impact.[3]

EZDIVE Magazine (Issue 102) published a feature titled “Artivism: The Artists and Artwork Fighting for Ocean Conservation,” which included an interview with Rossiter and images of her work.[6]
Critical reception
[edit]The Hamburger Abendblatt published an article on Rossiter’s participation at the COP26 in Glasgow, where her artwork Mangrove was included in the “Sketch for Survival” initiative supporting climate and wildlife conservation.[4]
United Nations Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development – special Issue ECO Magazine featured Rossiter in Chapter Seven of its Ecosystem Diaries series, produced by The Marine Diaries in collaboration with the United Nations’ UN Ocean Decade initiative. The article, titled “Giving Our Ocean a Voice,” discussed her use of visual art in marine conservation.[7]
Lemon Magazine (Issue 22) ran a six-page feature titled “Artivism: Drawing for the Ocean,” focusing on Rossiter’s educational art initiatives and her approach to visual storytelling for environmental causes. The article appeared in the magazine’s summer edition.[5]
