Get Home Safe (2023)

"Get Home Safe" is a 2023 novel by American author Conner Maloney. It was published on September 25, 2023.

Plot

The novel follows Andrew, a college student who returns to his hometown in North Carolina after the murder of his father. While supporting his grieving mother, Andrew struggles to process his own loss and adjust to the changes in his family.

At the same time, Andrew's relationship with his girlfriend, Layla, becomes increasingly strained. Layla, who remains at college, becomes involved in a lifestyle centered on parties and alcohol, creating additional tension between the two. As they confront personal challenges and the consequences of their decisions, Andrew and Layla attempt to rebuild their relationship while navigating grief, responsibility, and uncertainty about the future.

Themes

Get Home Safe* explores themes of grief, family relationships, romantic relationships, loss, forgiveness, and personal growth. The novel examines how traumatic events affect individuals and their relationships, as well as the process of coping with bereavement and emotional recovery.
