Gabriel Kennedy, also known as Propaganda Anonymous or Prop Anon, is an American writer, musician, street artist, and actor. He is the author of Chapel Perilous: The Life & Thought Crimes of Robert Anton Wilson, a biography of writer and counterculture figure Robert Anton Wilson.
Career
[edit]Kennedy has worked in writing, music, street art, and acting. His work has addressed subjects including counterculture, music, comics, philosophy, and popular culture. He has contributed writing to publications including The Comics Journal, Reality Sandwich, Mondo 2000, Boing Boing, and The Tonearm.[1][2]
Writing
[edit]Kennedy is the author of Chapel Perilous: The Life & Thought Crimes of Robert Anton Wilson, a biography of writer and counterculture figure Robert Anton Wilson that examines his life, writings, philosophical ideas, and influence on counterculture.[3]
Kennedy has contributed writing to The Comics Journal, Reality Sandwich, Mondo 2000, Boing Boing, and The Tonearm.[4][5] His work includes interviews and essays on comics, music, counterculture, philosophy, and popular culture.
For Boing Boing, Kennedy has written under the names Propaganda Anonymous and Prop Anon, including interviews with countercultural writers and artists such as Grant Morrison, Douglas Rushkoff, RU Sirius, David Jay Brown, Phil Farber, and Antero Alli.[7][8]
In 2017, Kennedy, under the name Prop Anon, co-interviewed comic-book writer and musician Grant Morrison for Mondo 2000, alongside Laura Kang. The interview discussed Morrison's work, magic, counterculture, music, and the influence of Robert Anton Wilson.[9] Kennedy conducted another interview with Morrison for Mondo 2000 in 2020, titled “Grant Morrison Surveys the Situation in ‘The Age of Horus’”.[10]

Music
[edit]Kennedy began making music in New York City before moving to Honolulu, Hawaii, where he became a member of the hip-hop crew Lowest Common Denominator (LCD). The group was active in Honolulu's underground music scene in the early 2000s and performed at Club Pauahi in 2004.[3][4]
After returning to New York City, Kennedy became associated with the Brooklyn-based underground hip-hop collective MINDSpray, performing under the name Propaganda Anonymous, later releasing the EP Todo Corazon (2008) and the album Squat the Condos(2010).[5] He is featured in two music documentaries, Bring the Noise (2014) and Bastards of Young (2017).[6] [7]
Kennedy later formed Hail Eris!, a New York-based musical project with Gabe Saladino. The project released its self-titled debut in 2016.[8]
Street art
[edit]As Prop Anon, Kennedy used street-art and wild-posting techniques in connection with the promotion of Squat the Condos. The campaign addressed luxury housing development and gentrification in New York City. [9]
Acting
[edit]Kennedy appeared as Tim in the season nine episode “Hewa ka lima” of the television series Hawaii Five-0 in 2019.[10][11]
Kennedy appeared as Boris Morris in the 2024 short film Piece of Cake. The film was released on YouTube and credits Kennedy in the cast.[12]
