Luiz Fernando Farias de Almeida (born November 14, 1989 in Ananindeua,[1] Pará, Brazil), better known by his stage name FNX, is a Brazilian[2] rapper, songwriter, record producer and entrepreneur based in Switzerland.[3] He has collaborated with several hip-hop artists.
Biography
[edit]FNX was born on November 14, 1989, in the city of Ananindeua, Belém, the son of a musician and a housewife. He grew up in northern Brazil with five family members in a wooden house.[3]
In 2003, his mother married a Swiss national[4] and FNX moved to the European country at the age of 13.[1] He grew up in Turgi and Baden, where he attended secondary school. FNX discovered his passion for music at 17, when he decided to start rapping at a youth center.
Career
[edit]Since 2005, he has been experimenting with various rap compositions. FNX began his professional career in 2013 with the release of his first song and started several musical partnerships in 2014. In 2017, he signed a contract with the label RZO BeatLoko, led by DJ Cia, and released the mixtape oSHOW,[5] produced by Moreno Donadio.
In 2018, he released Mochila MCM and oJOGO in collaboration with Raffa Moreira;[6] Emoção, with Jé Santiago; and Mask Off, featuring Predella, a rapper from the group Costa Gold.[7] At the time, FNX stated that since the beginning of his musical career, he had the vision of being the first European-based musician in the Brazilian hip-hop scene.
After several releases in 2019, FNX reached the Swiss radio station SRF in early 2020 with his track Rival, which earned the title of "Swiss Song of the Week." In January 2021, he released the track Balenciaga o Fendi, featuring Italian trapper MBoss and MKthePlug.[8] In november 2024, released the track Shawty, in collaboration with OG Maco.[9]
Musical style
[edit]His lyrics range from politically charged themes to love songs and party anthems. As a Brazilian rapper living in Europe, he also addresses the difficulties and prejudices faced by foreign artists.
FNX has stated that he was influenced by Racionais MC’s, RZO, MV Bill, and Marcelo D2, as well as rhythms such as carimbó and axé.[4]
